Doesn't update the base station *firmware* so I still can't login to my air disk after about 24 hours without restarting the base station. Not to mention no Time Machine support.
Airport Utility is the app that will be replacing "Airport Admin Utility" and "Airport Setup Assistant" in Leopard.
Unfortunately, the installer refuses to instal Airport Utility if you don't have it already. You can easily get around this limitation by digging into the installer package (right-click > "Show Package Contents") and copying out the following file:
/Volumes/AirPortUtilityUpdate/AirPortBaseStationUp date2007001.mpkg/Contents/Packages/AirPortUtility. pkg/Contents/Archive.pax.gz
Just double-click the file and a new folder "Applications" will be created with "Airport Utility.app" inside.
So far I've had no problems configuring my AirPort Express with this release. Just wish Apple hadn't crippled the installer as this really is an improvement over the old interface.
That really confused me when it said I needed admin utility 5.0 and there was no such thing (as far as I could tell). Does this update the base station or just the admin utility? I thought it said base station update...
Apple should have just said that this update is only for people with the new Base Station (802.11n) since they are the only ones that have the Airport Admin at version 5.
And for us poor version 4 owners, does this mean that we get no more updates?
I sure wish Apple would give a little more info on what some of their updates do. I'm hoping this one improves the reliability of mounting Airport disks. However, I've found mine work a lot better now that I turned the automatic channel setting off.
Requires Airport Utility 5.0 - strange they are releasing a public update that requires a component of Leopard. Us plebs using Tiger have Airport Admin Utility 4.
sorry, didn't realise that, I had only heard about it being released with Leopard. Even stranger then that it talks about the original snow (which I own) and graphite base stations.
