While it bombed a few times during option changes, once you're set up this game is extremely fun!
There are several tracks that all very different to maneuver and many options that can completely change the way this game looks and plays.
The tires leave skid-marks, so you can tell where cars are braking or spinning out.
Depending upon settings, this game can be anything from a horrible to fantastic racing experience.
But it's not a bad game, just highly variable.
Keep playing with it until you find settings you like.
On my 24" Imac, level 5 graphics in fullscreen was best.
Totally fun and very addicting!!
I finally got it to work on my G5. I think I got a few bad downloads for my G4 Powerbooks. It is working great in Full Screen on my G5 as well as an iMac running 10.5.8 (PPC) and I will download it again on my 2 G4 Powerbooks. As to the graphics and the app. I love it!
SuperTuxKart works great on my Original MacBookAir with integrated graphics which shows that it is not working in PPC Macs despite Auria's remarks. It is obvious that something is missing from this app that will make it run on PPC Macs. I must add that the previous version ran fine on my G5 and that was installed in 2009.
@Auria BTW it runs fine on my (Intel) MacbookPro using 10.5.8 but that does not have as great a Graphics card compared to the fast Radeon X800XT it has a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT.A fairly good card but not as great as the X800XT which BTW is hard to obtain.
Yup!!! It works great on my MacbookPro.Consequently it is obviously Intel only. There is something missing in the app that will allow PPC users to run the app.
I used http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Downloads#header_mac#header_macponse. A blank screen with music. I d/l'd the PPC version but it just doesn't work.
@Auria Thanks for your reply. I have to differ with you as I had replaced my Video card with one of the fastest video cards that the G5 ever had. It is a Radeon X800XT the fastest for the G5 was the X850XT but this one is pretty close to it.It runs games great! The fault must be something missing on your end.
ON my G5 running 10.5.8 it just shows a blank screen and music, I don't understand why it is listed as universal.I'll try it on my Intel MacBookPro I bet it works fine there, forget about PPC as it just doesn't run there,
runs well, I like most refinements of weapon rules, AI karts are more difficult to beat, very nice new tracks (missing the other island "beach" though), hopefully they will bring back networking support soon.
Great fun game for kids and childish adults :)
What can I say ?
Awesome. It might be simple for some people, and since it's quite simple, even I can figure out how to race. =)
I don't care much about the graphics; it's much more important that it's possible to steer the thing I'm driving.
Maybe just one thing could be improved... The "present boxes" - they *could* be installer packages instead. ;)
Ehm.
Where do I find the config file ???
-SuperTuxKart starts, plays the music, but never ends loading, so I cannot go to 'Tools : Delete Config'; AND the ReadMe file does *not* say anything about deleting the config file.
Would not launch on my G5 Dual 2.0. Attempting to run from the DMG tried to work. Copying to a directory, it would not launch. It got to the video resolution screen, but did nothing.
If it would launch, then I might have more of a review.

The problem is that SuperTuxKart installs itself as an X11-only program; you have to type a code in the X11 terminal.
Now, this code doesn't seem to work on my computer...
And I have no idea how to find the SuperTuxKart files, so that I can remove those 30 MB; a search for "SuperTuxKart" yields no results...
Until the developer includes an uninstaller, I will dissuade other users from downloading this "game".
Oh, there is a Launcher icon in the .dmg... Now everything works fine!
(You just have to be aware that the package itself won't install the Launcher onto your harddrive...)

You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, or try to beat the high score in time trials on your own.

I'm a SuperTuxKart developer. STK does run on PPC, if it didn't you would not have gotten to the point where you can here music.
The most likely problem I can figure is that your PPC computer does not have a good enough graphics card?
