I can't agree with the comment below that it's not worth 5 stars. Making the installation of the w3c validator as easy as this is incredibly useful and would be worth paying for.

I needed a local instance of the validator for use with my own application Scrutiny, and I've found installing the validator using their own instructions to be a complete nightmare.

I've given 5 for features too because it can only offer the same features as the public instance. They were just what I wanted and it offers them in full.

Nice but I't errors if there are accentuated characters in the file path. Simple but gets the work done.
Error message when the folder "Högskola" is in the path:
404 File `/Users/xxxx/Högskola/Lab/Pages/books.html' does not exist

Come on, five stars is way too much. This *is* very useful, but it is so horribly barebones (to a fault I mean) that you cannot give it five stars. For example, lots of errors have links for more info. Click one and BOOM! Your error report is gone because there is no way to go BACK. You have to retype your URL and re-analyze the page.

It is useful to have this app for dynamic pages (PHP or whatever) that you are running on a Mac with an internal IP address. But it is by no means a full-featured program.

Great utility for web developers. I've been waiting for it to update to the latest W3C Validator version.

My only gripe is that I wish it would save window settings (ie. window size and location).

Thanks for the great work!

nothing against this, but is it just a window with a web view thrown in it?

It's true that the top layer Cocoa UI is just a WebView,
but underneath that is a local copy of the W3C Validator (and supporting libs and modules), running inside a simulated CGI environment.

The setup is somewhat like a Dashboard Widget, in that the UI is mostly HTML, with scripts and libraries doing the work.

The goal of Validator S.A.C. is to "port" the W3C Validator as cleanly and simply as possible.

If you're interested in the details, take a look at the source, which is included with every copy (select Help > Show Source Code).

Great little app. Does just what it should with the minimum of fuss - ideal for leaving in the dock and dragging HTML files onto when you have finished editing.

It would be great if XML and CSS files could be checked through the same application too.

Works great. Can validate both local HTML, locally served PHP, as well as remotely accessible locations. Wish it also had CSS validation built in.

It works like a web page embedded in a window though. But for what it does, it does it quite well. Maybe adding an address bar would help with those times when it seems to have gone to a page that doesn't have the address bar displayed.
