Downloadable version does not state version number in GetInfo window, a laziness that is becoming all-too-common.

Launch the downloadable version for the first time. Try to choose "evaluate". Cannot!

Damned useless POS. Plonk.

I found Chordmate a while ago when I was looking for an application that would allow me to make quick and easy chord sheets for my guitar students, and have been VERY happy with it.

It makes very nice chord diagrams, and with version 1.4 allows the user to make custom chord diagrams.

It's also a snap to copy/paste, and save the chords as images.

The developer is also very responsive to feedback, and seems to strive to make the product better.

I highly recommend it, and regard Chordmate as a useful tool which does exactly what it is supposed to do.

I was looking for a program to primarily give me images of chords to use for song sheets. This was really the only program available which would manage it, and I could just drag and drop chords into a word processing document nice and easy.

I downloaded the demo version to try out and was impressed with the functionality, even changing the instrument / playing style used to preview chords.

Paid for the pro version, but didn't feel ripped off. It does exactly what i need it to without a whole load of fuss.

And the best thing was when I had a few tips on how to make the program better, these were implemented within a few weeks and available as a free update. Communication with the developer has been top class. I'd definitely recommend trying it.

Features: 4 - not the most complicated app, but does everything i need it to!

Ease of use: 4 - Pretty easy, a bit tricky working with the rule editor, but they're making constant improvements to make it easier.

Value: 5 - Cheap enough and does everything I bought it for. Nothing else on the market like it.

Stability: 4 - Was crashing at certain points when i first bought it, but after a quick email, they posted an update (within days) to address the issue.

actually a pretty neat app but a bit overprized.
I'd hate to spend more than 25,- for an app that's basically a chord db.
I wish it had at least an option to export/save your arrangements. (without having to use copy/paste)
Nevertheless well done and good looking.

Thank you for your comment. We have ChordMate Express which costs $20. It's a lot more than a database of chords because it allows you to try how chords fit together in a chord progression. The chord progression can be saved (there is an option in the Chord Progression menu). Aso, diagram export and support of custom chord diagrams make it a great tool for creating beautiful songsheets, lessons, etc.

The Pro version supports alternate tunings. We don't use a database for storing chords, so every tuning is supported equally well. Another big feature of the Pro version is support for altered chords. Any chord degree can be altered in any chord, which is much more powerful and flexible than a chord database.

This is poor software. There appears to be no quality control in relation to this product. Have a careful look at the "Formula" column (accessed via the "Chord Symbol Lookup" window. A significant number of the formulae are simply INCORRECT. See the formulae for "6th" chords, "6/9" chords, "11th" chords and "13th" chords. They are full of errors. This would be bad enough in freeware, but is utterly and totally unacceptable in software for which one is expected to pay. Don't touch it.

I can't help but notice in this persons profile that they do nothing but spam developers with bad reviews. Try the application and decide for yourself.

This is totally untrue and unfair. When i find a developer's software to be excellent or very good I say so. When I find it to be poor I also say so. Absolutely no-one is obliged to agree with me either way. This whole MacUpdate forum would be completely useless if people did not "tell it as they saw it". And there is a vast difference between "spamming developers with bad reviews" and merely posting criticisms of software that I have found to be poor. If you think ChordMate is wonderful, for example, that is your right. Just as it is mine to disagree. I actually detest spammers as much as you do and definitely do NOT spam anyone. Whether here or elsewhere.

Music is not exact science, and a lot is open to interpretation. Many music theorists have the view that chords are composed out of thirds stacked on top of each other, which would lead to variations on 1,3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13. The 13th scale degree sounds the same as the 6th, so many people just replace the 13th with the 6th.

That being said, we updated the formulas to include (6) next to 13 to avoid confusion for some people.
