Works great.

PRO: It made a 30 min (600mb) file viewable in VLC in about 5 minutes. Makes a complex orocess, for me anyway, simple (I don't know how to CD into a directory in Terminal)

CON: No progress information.Seems like it took ver my Mac completely.

Try "Burn," a free disc burning app available here:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21992
It will convert video files for you to DVD compatible format MPG.

i use galleon (do a search on mac update). it's a java program that, in addition to moving tivo files, does a lot of the same things that tivo desktop does, but a whole lot more.

How do you get the Tivo video to the Mac to begin with?

Remember to change the http:// to https:// to view your Tivo's listings.

Also, to get to your Tivo through a web browser, you'll need to login with "tivo" as your username and the 10-digit Media Access Key (MAK) as your password.

You need the MAK to use the Decoder anyway--poke around your Tivo's menus and you'll find it.

(If you're not a Safari fan, you can also find your Tivo's IP address and type that into your browser address window -- remember to use https:// though.)

i assume i can't just drag the converted file into iDVD to archive a collection of videos and i'm not sure if purchasing the apple mpeg-2 decoder will allow the above either.

anyone have an idea of how we can begin to archive these as viewable files (like a dvd).
