if it had auto backup it would be better speaking as someone who lost work in textedit

I think the developers means Windows WordPad application is better than TextEdit.
Right?

Microsoft WordPad is better than TextEdit.
Still, this version is inferior to either at the moment.

TextEdit is free, it's built-in, and it works perfectly well. Why would you announce an alternative without mentioning one thing your app does better?

I think I was about to make this exact comment. Like, I was going to independently produce a verbatim copy of it. Okay, not really. Anyway, consider this comment seconded.

Won't open anything

WordPad doesn't recognise any of the plain text files on my machine as openable. When I trick it into trying to open them, it tells me it can't open files created by BBEdit.

Hmmm... These guys make Burn, which is first rate software. This app can only get better, but better wait until then.
