For the longest time I was a big fan of Cooliris but eventually its compatibility updates fell behind the progress of OS X and Safari so I had to let it go. I was pleasantly surprised to see this release today. That is until I saw that there were no release notes and then read a few comments regarding Lion.
I navigated to the Cooliris site to get info from the Developer and see that despite this being suggested as an updated release at MacUpdate that support for current browsers and OS'es has lagged considerably. How hard would it be to include at least one complete release note saying what browsers and OS'es are supported instead of making people dig to simply be disappointed in your efforts due to misleading System Requirements listed here.
This build is works on OS X10.5 - 10.7 on Firefox 3.6 - 8.0+.
We apologize for the confusion. It looks like MacUpdate automatically grabs our newest release from the Mozilla Firefox Addon site, but does not slip in the release notes.
Disappointed. Attempted to download this new version, thinking they'd made it Lion compatible, but I can't even open the download. (pop up says "no available application to open") I went to the developer's site, and attempted a download there, but get a popup saying my browser is not supported.
Lion is listed both as "Unsupported" and as "NOT Coming Soon." IMO, CoolIris/PicLens no longer has any intention of continuing support of the Mac. I had no trouble opening this version in Lion, but what I got was random, uncompiled parts. Mac-users should probably kiss this one goodbye.
This build is works on OS X 10.5 - 10.7 on Firefox 3.6 - 8.0+. Due to resource constraints, we unfortunately had to discontinue development of our Safari version. :(
Used to love this little plug-in - now it's been stuck in 32-bit forever and thus forces Safari to run in 32-bit mode, the interface hasn't been updated in ages, the photos are all low-res. Started with a lot of promise and has since fallen flat on it's face. Honestly, I'd be happy if they just update the plug-in to be 64-bit compatible. I know it's not a big deal for Safari to run in 32-bit mode, but there isn't any reason for it to have to - it's not that difficult to recompile a plug-in for 64-bit compatibility. The developers just seem lazy.
I really love the look of Cooliris, and it does what it says it'll do...AND it's free. It does run very slowly on my MacBook, makes the fan run while it's on, and is not yet compatible with Lion in Safari. Still, I have enjoyed browsing through when I have some time to waste.
Sounds like trash! You would think by now that everyone knows we apple users expect nothing but the best! They are to use to putting things out for that other OS "Company " Thats expected not to work right! ;-)
I was re-directed to the CoolIris site and (when attempting to download the app) advised that my machine and browser (Safari 4) did not meet the required specifications when they most definitely do! Back to the drawing board guys...
sysadmins, please update the requirements to say 10.5 or later. The developer's website says 1.11.6 is for Leopard and Snow Leopard. The last version I got to work on Tiger was 1.11.1.26925
Hi there! Yes, you are correct, but you should be able to continue using Cooliris version 1.11.1 without problems. To find this version, go to http://www.cooliris.com/site/support/download-all-products.php and find a previous version by clicking 'Release Notes' for your browser and OS. Apologies for any inconvenience, and if you ever need extra information, do not hesitate to contact bugs@cooliris.com. Thanks!
Same here
not working on safari Leo 10.5.8
and btw never really fully worked, always complaining he cant use flash video becose flash plugin not installed.. not funny! since its totally false.
1.11.3.28708 appears not to work on Tiger (10.4.11)/Intel. The CoolIris icon previously installed in Safari (4.0.3)'s toolbar disappears, and there's no evidence of CoolIris in Google Image Search results. Reverting to 1.11.1.26925, which continues to work fine.
I too have had problems with CoolIris seeming to create a runaway process. To remove the software go to /Macintosh HD/Library/InputManagers and remove the folder with CoolIris in the name. Also go to /Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and remove the WebKit plugin with the name CoolIris in it. Substitute the name of your system hard drive for "Macintosh HD". You will have to do this from an admin account or put in an admin account name and password when asked for one in a dialog box. Reboot after doing this.
Same problem as Stormchild. High-end iMac with plenty of memory. After installation it ran wonderfully for about 5 minutes, then massive destruction. Machine was completely unusable. No uninstaller. Like a trojan horse. Looks great. Deadly. I have lost two days so far trying to get this off of my machine. Nothing on developer site to suggest knowledge that this is a problem.
Symptom: Machine will be running fine, then almost instantly grind to a glacial pace. And I mean glacial. Ten minutes for a click to register. A hard restart is the only apparent way out. Simple uninstall of plugin does nothing and no documentation on how to back out.
Plugin dosn't work unter Safari 3.1.1 for me. I can run the installer but after restarting Safari, i canÄt found anything of PicLens in the Pluginlist. Under Firefox it will be work perfect, but i can't use the Apple Remote.

Unfortunate change in hardware requirements:
"For Macs, any model with an Intel chip will work. PPC Macs are not supported."
