DVD Assist is an Applescript "Stay Open" applet to enable Front Row to select VIDEO_TS folders, disc images and MPEG2 transport streams stored on your hard drive, or any volume accessible from the Finder with adequate throughput.

DVD Assist uses "placeholder" movies that Front Row can display. When Front Row plays one of the placeholder movies, the appropriate media player is launched and commanded to play the matching media. DVD Player is used for VIDEO_TS folders and UDF disc images, VLC is used for MPEG2 transport streams.
What's New
Version 1.4.7:
  • Worked around a problem on the MacBook that could cause DVD Player to hang on the second VIDEO_TS/ISO played.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented ISO movies from playing if your DVD Player preferences were set to not play DVDs on insert.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.4 or later, Front Row

Front Row in Leopard will play VIDEO_TS files. See http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071029182617245 for details.

>VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Player.

How does that enable Front Row to play the VIDEO_TS file?

DVD Assist includes a placeholder movie. When Front Row plays that placeholder movie, DVD Assist knows to switch out of Front Row and over to DVD Player. The transisition is seemless.

It is explained much better in the docs.

Since installing Leopard, It doesn't work properly - the DVD window doesn't display until I click the DVD player icon in the dock.
