I absolutely love Lucas_Dambergs 0.9.3!!! It's extremely useful to me, as I'm doing showreel re-editing for my client off her current showreel DVDs (she lost all the original MOV files). We found it so painful to play all her film DVDs on Apple DVD Player, no way to jump straight to a specific time, and we have to write down loads of notes on a piece of paper. I almost planed to rip the whole DVD on my Mac, just for the sake of freely jumping to positions and add notes... fortunately I found this fabulous application before I do that!

This little software is so sweet :)

Finally! This is a greatly needed tool. It enables you to make a list of "jump to" index marks that can attach to either regular dvds or to any kind of movie file on your hard drive. Better yet, one can annotate the index marks with whatever text you want.

This will be especially valuable for educators (especially Film Studies professors like me -- but a great many others, as well). Now you can jump to exactly the section you need, rather than having to use the dvd's chapter options and then fast forward to get to the right place. This tool will save one from having to extract Quicktime clips using MPEG Streamclip or Cinematize (at least if one is only studying one, or a couple of dvds -- otherwise the instant-access benefit is compromised by the need to load the next dvd).

The movie opens up in the program's own player, with your textual links in a separate window (nicely dimmable) on the right. The navigation bar under the movie is similar to what one finds in the movie's normal player. In other words, a MOV or MPG file will have good scrubbing capabilities, similar to that of Quicktime Player, but a regular dvd playing on the computer's player is as limited (more so) as the Apple dvd player. While it's easy to play and pause and jump to the next menu chapter, you can't scan back or forward at all (let alone at different rates of speed). That is an area that really needs attention. If this program could actually improve on the navigational capabilities of Apple dvd player (which sucks because it makes it so hard to fast forward or go back, or do various kinds of slow motion for close analysis) then this would be a killer app.

In any case, even if it just stays with its current functionality, the navigation bar provided when one plays a dvd is basically unusable -- it's WAY too thin and tiny and imprecise. Using it is like threading a needle. Please beef it up!

One has four options for the size of the movie window. That's a nice touch, but the largest is simply not large enough for many needs. If the programmer could provide one or two larger sizes, it would be extremely helpful.

Finally, a sound movie plays whenever one opens up the program. While I appreciate this bit of "personality," it gets annoying really fast. One should be permitted to turn it off permanently.

Overall, a groundbreaking and extremely promising application. I hope it thrives.
