I've used tube sock for a while, in fact it was my first youtube download app I used when I wanted to keep videos. For the most part it's worked fine, until 3.5 quit working when youtube changed their format a while back. I have a couple alternatives I use, MacTubes, and the Youtube5 html5 safari extension which lets you download the video right from the webpage. I bought tussock 5 and it seems like a nice update, more mac native looking interface. question is, i haven't seen any other comments or reviews on this app past 2010, have people given up on it? Just curious the new version seems to work ok here. I think the only videos which won't download with tube sock are those which the owner has disabled embedding and outside usage on, certain apps can get around that, e.g. youtube5, i think mactubes sometimes will choke on that and so does tube sock. Anyway, i just mainly wanted to comment and find out why there were no new comments/reviews on this app, 5.0 has been out for a while.

It stopped working shortly after I bought it and the developer didn't reply to my email.

This program was pretty disappointing, tubesock works intermittently and the interface seems a bit uncoordinated. It'll randomly throw an error when I try to download some videos. I'd recommend tooble over this app, the UI is easier and I like their tech support too.

Tooble downloads and converts flv with the exact same quality as any other similar app (including Tubesock). Automatically converts the flv and imports it into iTunes at the same speed as Tubesock.

Plus it's free!

Tobble download flv (poor quality) and convert to mp4, so the quality stay the same and it take more time.

Mactubes which is also free, DOWNLOADS THE MP4 VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE, BETTER QUALITY AND NO CONVERSION.

Mactubes is better.

Uh...no. Same quality, but one is FREE. People can try both, and decide if they want to shell out $$$ for something that Tooble does for free. :)

I wonder if you know the difference between a .flv and a .mp4 video downloaded from youtube…?
Why do you want get the .flv to convert, while the .mp4 is available on youtube?

I remember tubesock 2/3 years ago, it was one of the few software available to get videos from youtube.

2/3 years later, tubesock comes back with the same old way to get videos.

Come on guys, there is a lot of free alternatives availables now to get videos from youtube or other Tubes sites.
Now you can download directly in mp4 from youtube and tubesock still DL the .flv to convert it !!!!

So please, update the software with the features of today!

Because of OYBOBBY's comment, I went looking for MacTubes. Found it and am now using and loving it. Thanks for the tip, OYBOBBY.

Forget TubeSock - MacTubes is a great little application.

TubeSock people have obviously ripped us! I purchased registration back in May and have written to them several times but they have not even dignified my emails with a reply. I do not believe they have any intention to fix the problem or they would have replied asking us to be patient.
How dishonest and unprofessional!

I've been using Tube Sock for a couple years - older and newest version - now it suddenly stopped working. Get the "file doesn't exist" error.
I've written to the developer several times, but I get no response. My advice - don't buy till they fix it!

I've had Tube Sock for a couple of years, working great without any problems...bought it for other family members. Now all of a sudden I get the failed message, file doesn't exist. I went to the updates & still no progress. Wrote in for trouble shooting, no response :(. I even bought a another copy to see if that would work (DOES NOT WORK)!
I see that I am not the only unsatisfied customer. Tube Sock, it's time to fix.

Tubesock Sucks.

Their Support Sucks too.

I bought the registered version 2.03 a couple of weeks ago and every time I tried to record a vid I would get an error type 1 message.

So I emailed their support. No reply.

I emailed their support again and again, no reply.

What a piece of crap.

TubeSock no longer seems to work, at least not with 2.0 sw on iPhone/iPod. There is no indication on their site that they are even aware of the problem or working on a solution. I found TubeTV to be just as easy to use and is free.

I've used Tubesock 2.03 for some time, and been able to import YouTube videos onto my iPhone.

Yesterday I upgraded my iPhone to the 2.0 software, and iTunes to 7.7 on my Mac (OS X 10.5.4). Now, none of the videos I obtain through TubeSock work.
I also tried the "Convert Selection to iPod/iPhone" option in iTunes, which allows the music to play with a black white screen.
