SilverFast Nikon Scanner Software ... LaserSoft Imaging has gained 25 years experience in the development of imaging software that has now been incorporated in the redevelopment of SilverFast scanner software. In combination with a variety of innovative ideas and the usage of current software technology SilverFast 8 has been evolved that we can proudly present as the best scanner software.

Any photographer knows SilverFast and since Nikon has discontinued
supporting Nikon Scan anyone using a Nikon scanner on an actual operating
system should have a look at SilverFast.
Nikon film scanners are said to be among the world's best, especially the
CoolScan 5000 and 9000. The hardware is just one part of the digitizing
utilities, software is the second. Use the best software for the best
scanners and this clearly is SilverFast.
I like the 64Bit HDRi raw data format including infrared information. This
IR data can be used to remove dust & scratches and other defects on old
film.
Multi-Exposure is a great feature for darker slides and for slides with
bright and dark areas. It increases the dynamic range, i.e. the contrast
range.
If you have some old KOdachromes to scan, try the SilverFast Kodachrome
features and IT8 calibration. No color casts, but nice images.
What??? $218 bucks. Why I've been using Vuescan for a dozen years and couldn't be happier. For $80 bucks so (mines permanent as an upgrade) how can you go wrong. It also covers the gamut of scanners out there, most... any ... of them dating way back. I love Hamrick for his dedication to his work. And his almost weekly refinements.
For whom money is the only criterion VueScan could be an alternative. It is programmed by one man, where SilverFast is developed by the software company LaserSoft Imaging. They have a professional support team, SilverFast is adapted specifically to each scanner, and so on ...
SilverFast is worldwide recognized as the standard for scanner software - with good reason.
The best part of SilverFast is that it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Not LaserSoft giving to you, you giving to LaserSoft.
If you have multiple scanners, you have the distinction of having to pay additionally for *each and every scanner model you own*. How thoughtful of LaserSoft. Is my Microtek i900 really that much different from my Canon 9950F? Are you a SilverFast user upgrading to a new scanner? Prepare to fork out extra money to LaserSoft if you want to use their software with it. Got a scanner that's somewhat expensive? The price of SilverFast goes way up (Nikons are a great example of this). Do you like paying for "major" upgrades that don't have any significant new functionality? SilverFast is for you. Want multi-exposure? Make that check out to "LaserSoft, Inc.".
Ed Hamrick and VueScan all the way. It may not be the slickest program in the world but at least I don't feel like I'm getting butt-raped every time I use it...
The reason I originally bought this software was that it was the only one that supported my scanner (Umax 2200 USB) when the makers dropped their support.
I'm glad I did though as it is so much better than the Umax software with many more functions and it gives great results, even with poor quality originals.
My favourite in this version is the print functionality. The layout functions allow for fast placement and output. The color management works great.
With the Auto Adaptive Contrast Optimization I could refurbish many badly photographed pictures that I had already given up on. I could even retain all teh details in the highlights while using this feature.
The Overall workflow is very intuitive and I learned most features of the software by watching the tutorial videos on the silverfast website.

The WorkflowPilot, a unique feature, is a core element of the new software. As a kind of assistant, it guides the user in the correct order through all processing steps required for his individual workflow. Turning your analog originals into convincing scans is so simply, because all complex operations become just a child's play for the user.
The SilverFast Preview Concept allows to immediately see the result of any adjusted setting in the preview window. The user interface of SilverFast 8 is newly developed by current standards, for the user can operate all major functions quickly and easily. SilverFast 8 supports the latest 64bit hardware and is therefore extremely fast and efficient.
SilverFast SE 8 for 49,- The straightforward way to professional scanning for everyone
SilverFast SE Plus 8 for 119,- Advanced functionality for advanced users
SilverFast Ai Studio 8 for 299,- The professional version with all features and highlights
