ShhMBP is a fix for the MacBook Pro whine issue using a StartupItem that loads a kernel extension which disables the C4 power mode on the CPU. It is packaged in a standard Mac OS X installer to make installation easy.

Do NOT install this on computers other than the first generation MacBook Pro.

This software is unsupported and comes with absolutely no warranty.

This works like a charm. I have been putting up with that noise for more than two years on my MBP 2.16 Core Duo. Today, it's instantly GONE.

I recently purchased an original 17" 2.16 Ghz MacBook Pro with the whine/hiss problem (unknown to me before the purchase). At first, I thought it was coming from the hard drive, so I purchased and installed a new 320GB drive - that didn't fix the whine. After some additional searching, I found this, installed it, and it works PERFECT (no more whine, normal processor usage, both cores operational). Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I tried to use ShhMBP 1.0 to fix my macbook noise, it works amazing, I cannot hear any noise from the power supply, it is silent. This soft is perfect. I really recommend it to whom is suffering from the noise. Thanks

This is amazing! I never thought there would ever be a fix for the high-pitched whine coming from my MacBook. This really works on a standard MacBook. (Mine is Core2 Duo 2Ghz) I'm so happy! The noise is completely gone! It is so nice to work up close now. Thanks ShhMBP! This is great!!!

I downloaded this on 2.2 Macbook, Leopard and...no difference. Is this meant for the buzz that sounds like it's coming from the back left corner? Or somewhere else? Ah, so disappointing! If somebody came across another solution that worked for them, please email me, at soleus at gmail d o t com

I took my Core 2 Due Macbook (NOT a Pro model) into the Apple store and they basically said "sucks to be you, but all our macbooks make this noise". So I installed this, despite the program saying explicitly not to.

Now, my MacBook works fine, and that stupid noise is GONE! I don't know if the battery life will be any worse, but as long as it's not too severe, it's worth it: now I can use my MacBook in a quiet room without getting a huge headache.

I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE. I installed it on my 17" macbook pro and the thing just shut up, it is silent now. and the batter is still totally fine.

And: It works perfectly with leopard as well. NICE!!!

Nothing special to install it. Just download, install and restart. That's all I did. Just finished my install and I can report no problems.

i have the same problem (cpu noise) on a black macbook. but the page says this program is strictly for macbook pro's.
should i give it a try?
any advice?
