Spanish Vocab was developed to be a fun way to practice your Spanish vocabulary. The built-in default list includes over 1800 words and phrases. A Maintenance window is used to manage the words and phrases used in the game. Sound is supported. You can turn sound on/off using the "Sound" menu item. High scores, Maintenance information and sound setting are saved between sessions.
You can load/save a tab delimited plain text word/phrase and translation file. You can play a game using just your mouse or using the keyboard.
(+++): Useful vocabulary choices and challenging multiple choice from a list of ten. Uncomplicated, if a little homely, interface.
(---): Speeding through the test is awkward. To do so you must either jump back and forth between mouse and keyboard to navigate - a click each time to activate the drop-down multiple choice list and although you can scroll down the list with the arrow keys, you cannot select using the numeric pad's enter key, though you can with the return key - or you must place both hands on the far right of the keyboard, using your left hand to hit the return key. ProVoc, on the other hand, allows you to go through these tests very quickly with one hand on just the numeric pad - far more desirable and ergonomically comfortable. Spanish Vocab has no import feature and thus new words must be entered manually, one at a time.
As this is a version 1.x release, one hopes that this program continues to evolve, and will include better import options as well as other language choices.
Actually, you can take the test using just the mouse. Click on the drop-down menu to see the choices, click on your choice and click on the "My Answer" button.
Appreciate the suggestions. A French Vocab is in beta testing at this time.
Yes, it can be done with the mouse, but this is slow and annoying. Compare ProVoc and you'll see how quickly it can be done with your fingers resting comfortably on the number pad.
Have you tried using the Down-Arrow to show the multiple choices, using the Down-Arrow to highlight your choice, hitting Return to enter the highlighted choice and hitting Return again to submit your answer? This approach allows you to keep your fingers on the keyboard and take a test quickly and easily.
I DO appreciate your suggestions. Spanish Vocab Version 2 will be out shortly. This version allows you to load a tab delimited plain text file with words and translations. You can also save the word/translation information in a plain text file.
