Meta combines an extended and improved version of the familiar Spotlight query language with a multi-window interface. Features include:

Search terms can be combined using 'and' and 'or' boolean operators (think 'movies or music' to find all your movies and music)
Searches can be restricted to specific folders, so you can focus your searches much better than in Spotlight, which looks everywhere
Saved searches (Metafolders, which are like Smart Folders) can be created from an existing search with a single mouse click, instead of going though a cumbersome GUI interface

The best feature of this searching-app (imho) is the possibility to use terms like "&&" and "||" when looking for tags or filenames, just like one would in Javascript, for example. This plus features like searching for substrings, in certain locations or for certain kinds of files makes this one an enormous useful application.
