SkypeMate is a software driver that allows some USB phones to work with Skype. It must be installed on your computer for your phone's keypad, display, and other features to function with Skype.
What's New
Version 1.0.0.12:
Bugfix: The debug log file "console.log" is too large in size.
Change: (B2K) Change the default channel to "USB".
Just installed the program on Snow Leopard and to my surprise, it's working so much better. Only uses around 2.9% CPU on my 1.66 Ghz Core Duo Mac mini.
The program doesn't crash and runs well. I wonder how long I can keep using it though since the PPC platform has been phased out.
The YeaLink company has now removed the software completely from their website. I can't even find B2K manuals on their website anymore. They have also removed link to the Windows & Linux version of the software.
Nice program. However, it has NOT been developed in a long time. The last release from Aug 200 was a PPC binary. There is still no Universal Binary available. Also it crashes excessively on some systems. I'm having issues on Leopard. Wish the developers would either make it open source so others can help move the development forward or do something with it. They do keep updating the windows version, but not the Mac version.
With 10.5.2 it worked for a bit but still crashed frequently.
I just upgraded to 10.5.3 and the program is totally unworkable. It crashes within 5 seconds of launching. Tried rebooting and reinstalling and nothing helps.
I just download the latest update, I tried it on my USB adaptor (USB TelBox) connected to a regular coreless phone. I called a cellphone, it works fine :) (Just need to go to preference to set the audio in/out through USB devices)
Just installed this today on my iMac G5 for use with my new USB skype phone (http://www.yealink.com/en/view.asp?ClassLayer=4).
Works an absolute treat. The phone itself turns out to just be an external sound device with buttons that can remote contro l the skype interface (A tip: you can also redirect system audio in/out to the device, which means you could use it to voice chat in ANYTHING).
All in all, for a AUD$50 device, I'm extremely happy, and seriously considering moving up to one of yealink's wireless options.
Um, because it worked, you wingnut, which was the point of the entire review (and the software).
Although the phone's manufacturer might (and I say MIGHT) say it's windows only, using this software it WORKED A TREAT on my G5 (is there an echo in here?).
Get a clue.
