How are MacIntel users creating your Par2 files? I found that PAR creation is broken in this app--I looked inside and saw that the par executable is PPC. I tried using MacPar Deluxe to create PARs, but it didn't produce functional PARs (from RARs created with SimplyRAR. Also, is there anything better for RAR creation that anyone has found? Thanks for any info you can offer.
Works great for creating password protected or plain rar archives. It also works great decompressing both password protected and plain archives. I did this in 4 well-known ways by opening my password protected file in question from the menu, drag and dropping both on the Dock icon and on the App icon in the Finder and finally by Right-clicking on the archive and selecting "Open With. In all 4 cases I was presented with a small dialog to enter my password. The correct one gave me the opportunity to see the contents and extracting it. The wrong pw aborted the process.OS X Lion (10.7.4)
SimplyRAR works great with files that are not password protected, but with password protected RAR files it shows an endless barber-shop pole, never asking for a password or unarchiving the file.It may work fine for creating RAR files, I haven't tested it in that regard.
My experience of v1.09 and password protected archives differs from yours. See my review above.
better than using Rarify & RAR because it's free, and only requires one installation. Does exactly what I need, no more no less.
Wow... this program is amazing! I am impressed. I have WinRAR and it does remind me of it. I paid for WinRAR and would have hated to have paid for the program again in Mac mode. Thanks to the programmer. You get a perfect 10 out of 10 stars. Congratulations on a great job. I made a mistake in the stability rating so please just ignore that. You got a perfect score#!!
For those of you who already purchased WinRAR in the past - please try to use it on the Mac through Wineskin. You have to run what is called a "wrapper" and the program again every time you use it -however- its compression seems better and much faster. According to estimates on this particular file... it is half the size instead of only being reduce by 10%. It seems to only work with 32-bit WinRAR however the speed is for this file is tripled.
The 5.2 gb file has just been completed. Please note that the end result is that the compression method produces the same size files however the speed IS triple! There is also a progress bar. The only problem I see with this program is that it shows an error message if you exit out of it... sorry - WinRAR is also a pay for version. I personally use version 3.93. Hopefully it is compatible with all versions.
Doesn't work on Lion
Actually, it works fine in Lion. The rar binary inside the app package does not because it is PowerPC. Download the latest (intel) rar for MacOSX binary and replace the PowerPC one with it. http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
1.09 works on Lion.
Easy-to-use app, quickly makes password protected archives. One star missing, 'cos an integrated right-click menu item (ex.: make archive) is missing for me.Btw free app ;-) Thanks
Ótima opção para Macmaníacos...
usefull and easy to use tool
I was looking for a right click "create rar archive" option just like on windows or on the finder for zip archives. I finally found something that does this amazingly on a blog. Check this out:
Hope this is useful.
Thanks a lot for this excellent suggestion!
I'm trying to find a way to line up files to do a bunch of files in a row. Anyone have suggestions?
