Bacon is a free 3D modeling and animation application for the Mac.
Its main features are:
Modeling - Procedural modeling tools
Texturing and Shading - Import and control of any shader described in the RenderMan Shading Language. Automatically create shadow maps.
Animation - Animation with envelops and scripting
Rendering - Creates RIB files for RenderMan renderers
What's New
Version 1.7: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and a RenderMan compliant renderer. Bacon comes with the Pepper renderer, but you can use any other renderer that accepts RIB input files.
If you want something powerful, free, and EXTREMELY difficult to learn to use, get Blender. I would recommend Wings (Wings3D.com) for something that is easy to learn (though not at all Mac like) that is also free and has some good renderer plugins.
Cheetah3D and Silo I have found are also easy to pick up and learn. Silo is especially nice because the entire UI is able to be set up to fit your workflow. (I actually cloned Wings' interface with little work.) These aren't free however.
