Create Booklet adds an export command that converts documents into PDF format for printing as a booklet with staples down the middle. This means the pages have to be resorted before printing and two pages have to be shrunk onto one. Create Booklet does that for you and as it is a PDF Service you can do it directly from the print panel. Additionally you get the Automator Action that is used in that PDF Service.

Simple & does the job.

To make changes (eg. RTL [Hebrew/Arabic] setup, page size, etc.), you must first move the workflow from root to your user account:
From /Library/Services/Create Booklet.workflow
To ~/Library/Services/Create Booklet.workflow

To keep the original and add a second menu item with your changes (eg. "Create Booklet" & "Create RTL Booklet"), open the original and make your changes.
When you press file->save, Automator offers to save as a duplicate, which it saves in ~/

The reason the script stores itself in /Library instead of ~/Library is so that the booklet will be for all users, but it can confuse users that do not understand the restrictions on editing that Apple imposes.

Unfortunately, this app has messed up my ability to print anything! I have Mac OS 10.7.5 and a Brother HL-5240 printer. After installing the app, the addition of "Create Booklet" was added to my print box (in the drop-down PDF tab), but I couldn't use it because my printer wouldn't work. Then I tried to print a plain file from another program and it wouldn't work either. Sending a print command makes the printer get a constant red light and a blinking yellow light. I turned the printer off to erase the command and tried to make a print from another computer —no problem there. That's how I know my computer communication to the printer has been disrupted by this app. Any workout on this?

I got it working! I did a diagnostic crackdown on my printer by going to System Preferences, finding the Print & Scan area, then finding the troubleshooting area for my printer. That took me online to identify first my exact printer and then the problem (not printing). They told me to make sure my printer was set as the default printer. I did that and everything worked! I'm guessing that installing Create Booklet somehow kicked that setting off. Now I can print an ordinary page and also the Create Booklet feature is usable!!!!

I am relieved to find this booklet feature. However, it reduces font size. How can I enlarge the font size or keep it the same size as in my original?

Well, shrinking A4 to A5 to create a booklet is what this application is supposed to do (or the equivalents for US Letter etc). If you wish to design for this format you can take the shrinking into account from the outset, thus making everything 44% larger. If you wish to have 12 pt text in the final result, set your document in 17 to 18 pt.
