There were actually two different 1.8 GHz G5 models.
The first was the mid-range system when the G5 was first introduced. 1.8GHz, 8GB max RAM and PCI-X. It was discontinued with the release of the dual 1.8 GHz system.
Roughly a year later, Apple released a second 1.8 GHz system, this one with 4GB max RAM, and standard PCI. It also has the liquid cooling system.
I believe it is this second system that this update deals with.
I have exactly the same problem: don´t need this update. I have the 600mhz machine. I thought that´s what the update is for. Very frustrating as I still have some of the mentioned troubles. It was updated last year, but I think the firmware is still old. I found very little information in the web. In systemprofiler it says Boot-ROM-Version: 5.2.2f2
Can anyone help me install the new firmware? doesn´t anybody else have the same problem?
Did the update and now my airport shows up, which is great. The only problem is that I have to do the install power up (hold the power button till the light flashes) everytime or my airport is turned off and cannot be activated. Gerr....
