While Doze is running, it will prevent your system from going to sleep. Consider a time when you leave your computer running to finish a download and your computer falls into sleep-mode before it finishes. Perhaps you're reading something while running off the battery and your monitor keeps dimming. By running Doze it will appear as if there is constant activity on your system without using any CPU.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.
I DO use this thing. While in India recently, I had a fairly slow connection, so I would leave iTunes downloading 'Lost' all night. But when I came in the morning, the connection had been droppped. This thing solved the issue.
Yes, I know how to use the Energy Saver pane, but for whatever reason, the Powerbook slept anyway, I guess, but Doze kept it tickled.
I love this thing! You barely even notice it when it's running. I had to use this while I was using snes9x. For some reason my computer thought I wasn't doing anything so every 10 minutes I had to move the mouse (I was using a controller). Then I tried this; worked like a charm!
You most certainly can do this in energy saver by moving moving both sliders to "Never". But in most cases I don't want to change my power management settings when I leave my computer to process a task that won't keep my computer awake. This is just a simple program meant to help during those times, not to replace your energy saver.
