I found Sitemap Automator easy to instal and use. It has a very clean and intuitive design.
It made the creation of a sitemap a total breeze.
I am new to this product but am impressed with the ease of use and simple integration with both my host site and search engines.

I've always considered Sitemap Automator a "must have" application.
It has paid for itself over and over again as a quick and convenient way to create, update and submit sitemaps. This should be done every time updates to a website are published and I know there are occasions when I would have skipped this step if it wasn't for the automator.

The ability to trace broken links has been on my wish list for some time. I've had a couple of messed up links on a large site that have been bugging me for months. With this latest update I tracked them down in a matter of minutes.

Hi,

It downloads a disk image that is downloaded to the same folder as your Sitemap Automator application. The disk image is mounted and should appear on your screen automatically so all you have to do is drag it to your Applications folder, replacing the current version you have.

Please make sure the current version you have installed is not running when you install the new version.

Update to my previous review (MacUpdate does not allow me to edit my previous writings):

1. FTP settings ARE remembered now for a website as stated. It was just not solved the way I expected it; so I did not discover it until now.

2. Developer says that Website Listing (the Menu) will be revised in a future update. Let's hope that this day will be soon..

Since I need to give a new rating, I update my rating to a 4.

If you hab to maitain only a very few websites, the software works allright and would be 5 stars normally).

But if you have 50+ Websites to maintain, to give an example, the software makes live complicated.

A. It is not possible to edit the entries in the "Websites" menu, so this can be a wild mix of "http://www.domain.com", "www.domain.com", "domain.com". That confuses the sorting and makes finding a domain difficult. Why not making an editable field so that one can streamline those entries later on wighout having to delete a site and start all over again.

B. The FTP-Info is not linked to the domain. So after you successfully found and updated the sitemap for a domain you have to search an independet FTP-list that contains EVERY entry ever stored to find the right FTP-account for the domain in question.

2 Stars for not keeping the promise to fix that.

A. If you have scanned your website you cannot change the URL. The reason is because a domain with www. and without www. is considered to be two different domains by the Sitemap protocol. You shouldn't be able to change domains once they are scanned, there would be no use for that. If you haven't scanned a URL yet, you can edit it.

B. This feature has been available since version 2.0 released in January.

Correction: remembering FTP accounts was introduced in this release (2.1). Sorry for the misinformation.

Dear developer, thanks for commenting. You are certainly correct about the URLs. I am aware of that. I would be perfectly fine if the "REAL" url would be stored somewhere". But I don't think that it is wise to use the "REAL" url also as menu for the mentioned accessibility reasons. - I try to contact you now via your support system directly.

I've been using sitemap automator for a while now and must say I am quite pleased with it. before, I would upload and submit my sitemaps manually and it took me a very long time. especially since I have several different websites. sitemap automator saves me a bunch of time, and I find it extremely easy to use.

Hi Greg,

Send your site over to me at http://www.ragesw.com/support/ and I will get this fixed for you ASAP.

It is probably due urls being redirected improperly or in a way that RAGE Google Sitemap Automator does not understand.

This application has some serious flaws. The first is that you cannot save your settings. Spent half an hour making an elaborate set of filters, and forty-five minutes crawling your site applying them? Too bad, next time you need to make a sitemap, you have to start all over.

Second serious error, you create a few obvious filters, crawl the site and go get some coffee -- take a lunch if you maintain a huge site like I do. Then get back and smack your forehead at a missed filter. No problem, you think, I'll just add it and -- Oh ... you realise as the screen pops back to step two that you'll now have to re-crawl the whole site just to add a filter. Never mind that a filter is something that programmatically is extremely simple to run against an extant list! We have to crawl again -- and I hope you did not just hit "add another filter" in a reactionary manner without taking exhaustive notes on every single idea for a filter that you might have had, because you list of results is Gone.

That pretty much sums it up. I guess if you have a 70 page web site where 95% is just static literature, this tool might be Really Awesome, but for anyone that has to maintain a constantly shifting, 10,000+ page website. Ha.

Go find another tool. You should not be charging $30. Period.

Filters are saved within your sitemap Project file. So, next time you wish to scan your web site go to File->Open and select your sitemap project file from Documents/Google SItemap Automator Maps/ and select your project file. Your filters will still be there ready for your next scan.

As for editing existing filters without having to re-scan, this is a feature we would like to add to a future release soon.
