By leveraging the powerful built-in command-line tools in OS X, Compactor brings those capabilities into a simple and comfortable user-interface.

Compactor provides support for the following formats:

.zip
.tar.gz
.tar.bz2
.dmg
.dmg-bz2 (.dmg with bz2 compression, only OS X 10.4 can read this)

Warning, the command line tools that handle .zip, .tar.gz, and .tar.bz2 (that Compactor uses) aren't alias friendly and will remove them from any archives you create.

I do not understand the warning. What will it remove and what is the implication of it?

It means that if you create archives that contain aliases, they will not be in the archive created with this tool.
