The author mentions on his blog that the music industry shut down the API that Harmonic relied upon at LyricWiki. Without that access, Harmonic can't grab lyrics anymore, just that useless truncated bit that we get now. He is no more pleased than we are:

The author also started college last fall, so he put Harmonic into open-source here:

Finally a lyrics widget that works! I created a macupdate account just to leave my first review because I was amazed at how much this has improved.

I'm not sure what was done on this latest release but it is a night and day difference compared with the version I used 6 or 7 months ago.

I started with Harmonic, and it worked but never that well. Then I switched to Pearlyrics which was marginally better, but still unimpressive.

Today I decided to check if Harmonic had improved and I was surprised to see that lyrics were found and updated in iTunes within the first few seconds of the song! It is now very fast and much more accurate; able to pick up lyrics for many live songs as well. Hats off to the developer.

The one feature I liked of Pearlyrics that Harmonic lacks is the ability to delay the input of lyrics into the song data so that there isn't the common slight pause of the song at the beginning of the track. If it also had a feature to add lyrics to the whole library without having to play each song this widget would be godly.

Strange.

Harmonic stopped working for me.
I'm not sure if it was after updating Leopard to 10.5.3 of Harmonic to 2.3, but somewhere in the hay something strange happened.
Now, after changing a song on iTunes i can see the lyric being displayed on Harmonic for a split of a second but it changes to "Can't Find Lyrics".
Checking Terminal I can confirm that harmonic did find the lyric, so I don't know why it's not showing it.

The 2.2 update rocks! Yeah, this widget can only find lyrics that are already on the web somewhere, it can't make them up by itself. I can live with that.
I had an issue with the paste function on v2.1.1 but the update seems to have fixed that.
Thanks for the great widget.

Okay, guess what? I still have a problem. When I click on paste lyrics, I can only paste the last text I "copied" to paste in whatever text app I used before the widget. In other words, if I copied something in text edit to paste, it shows up in the lyric info section of the song. Not the lyrics.
What's up with that?

Dave, I do not understand your issue. You are describing exactly how "copy" and "paste" works in every other application. When you "paste", the last thing that you "copied" is inserted. Where does the problem lie?

Hi MindQuirk,
How to explain. Yes I described "cut and paste" as used in other apps. This widget is "pasting" text from another app.
I play a song in iTunes, open Dashboard and the lyrics are in the widget window. I scroll to the bottom and click on the paste arrow. Then I look in the lyric info window in iTunes and I see the last thing I "cut" from another app. So again, all that shows up is for example, "Shel", from when I cut it to paste in another app. The lyrics are not there. "Shel" will also show up in the widget after I click the paste lyrics arrow. When I click clear lyrics, the lyrics show up again, back and forth.
I can sometimes get the widget to finally paste the lyrics by clicking paste, then clearing lyrics and pasting again or some other combo I can't repeat. Did I described the problem well enough? Thanks in advance

Dave, again you are describing the intended behavior. There would be no way for you to paste lyrics somewhere unless you have copied them from somewhere first. Since Harmonic does not have a "copy" button, whatever you have copied before is pasted.

The purpose of the "paste" button is to allow you to paste lyrics into the widget in the event it cannot find them, or you want to change the lyrics for some reason.

From the sound of it, you are trying to put the lyrics that Harmonic finds and paste them into the iTunes lyrics field for a certain track. This is unnecessary: Harmonic does that automatically for every track.

Whoa! I am such an idiot. I was trying to make it harder than it actually was. It works!!!
Sorry about my confusion, but now I see this is the simplest widget I've ever used. Seriously, thank you for helping me.
Wow, life is good again.

ROR01,

I can't see the reasoning behind your unsubstanciated comment, ie. "Forget it". The app you suggest is just that, an app, not a widget that provides that much of an extra degree of freedom between the user and the OS. Granted ver. 2.0.1 might have some issues with Leopard, but i trully belive the dev will remedy asap.

Harmonic is the not only the best looking lyrics widget, it is also the simplest to use. Don't worry about it, it does exactly what you want it to.
