I'm pretty sure this used to be free. Now that they want $20 for it... I won't bother. EasyFind (free) and HoudahSpot ($25) are better in their own way.

Download Spotlaser. Enter search term(s) and paremeters. Initiate search. Watch it do nothing.

Complete waste of time.

It is shame that Apple was unable to create a usable Spotlight interface in Tiger! Apple has created three different interfaces for the same feature: search. I cannot explain the frustration I get using any of Apple's interfaces. Each one is horrible! (BTW: and why three?)

Now enter Spotlaser! It has only one interface, but this one is superior to Apple's one. Spotlaser does not treat me like an idiot, whereas Apple's interfaces do so.

You CAN search with Spotlaser...

I've used Spotlaser since it was first released (donated, too.) As a novice user, I found it easier than Finder for saved searches.

This is a nice app by a responsive developer. GUI is incredible. 1.3 is a great improvement over previous versions.

Actually putting quotes around your spotlight search query does not do the same thing. Moreover, it is unreliable. Putting quotes around your search term is roughly a "keyword search", but that also being limited to only matching whole words. It's an undocumented, and perhaps entirely accidental, "feature".

I think Version 1.1 of Spotlaser presents too much information and is a bit klunky (can't press return to start you search, for example), but the functionality is there. Version 1.1 does work (version 1.0 did not). Note that you have to click the big logo at the bottom to start your search and you can't press return - you really have to click the bottom icon. Hopefully the author will add support for pressing return to start the search and change the funky logo button to a normal Mac OS X button.

I have on and off been working on a similar, but much more limited tool to do wildcard name searches only. Both mine and Spotlaser support wildcards. So if you search for "Test*.pdl" it will match "Testing 1 2 3.pdl". Pretty cool, and very useful. Spotlaser and mine work by creating a custom Finder smart folder and the opening it. By creating a smart folder this we you can tap into much more capability than the Finder currently provides an interface for. For example, the wildcard searching. With some simplification and refinement, Spotlaser will be a great tool.

The same functionality can be aquired through spotlight putting quotes (" ") around your search. "campaign.htm" will search only for files whose names contains "campaign.htm" for example.

This application is like my grandmother, dead and cold! Unfortunately! Big shame to programmers who made this peace of (nice looking) crap. Why so many people want to earn money with writing a code?
Perhaps is better to work in factory, or...

This looks like it could be cool, incorporating many of the features I find lacking in Spotlight (as the developer obviously also did).

However, it doesn't work. I don't get any results from a search, not as I am typing nor after hitting return. As the other reviews state, the window needs to be movable, or act like Spotlight's window. We also need prefs to set a keystroke command to invoke Spotlaser.

Looking forward to using this app, it looks like it could be pretty handy.
