- I haven't bought a physical magazine in a long time, largely thanks to Zinio + iPad, which says a lot.
- For the time-being, the content makes it worth it, even it if the selection isn't wide. (I believe it's wider than any other service though).
- Terrible usability, needs immediate attention.
- Performance is weak, but it's never crashed and behaves consistently. (v4)
Additional thoughts/comments:
I'm not sure where this will land in the sequence of reviews, but I can say that Adobe Air is not the problem, it's the development. Anything can be made to perform well in Air. Zinio simply needs to invest more into development.
And I mean they REALLY need to pick-up the pace on this app. It's an incredibly valuable tool for content consumption, but very poorly considered.
The primary problem? Access. When I open the app, I want to have easy access to my library of issues. It needs to be as easy as looking at a bookshelf—even if just the spines vs. the entire cover. I don't want to have to click the year, and then click-through all the months to get back to an older issue. It's idiotic.

Then I tried iPad version. Initially it was horrible as well, very sluggish. The current version feels better.
Then I tried v4 beta. It was still based on Adobe AIR. VERY VERY POOR performance!!
Zinio is just a demonstration that Adobe s*cks! Uses a lot of CPU, yet the animations and page turn, fade in and out, are ALL EXTREMELY slow and sluggish!!!
And I am running it on almost latest MBP with 6GB or RAM!
I would even say when browsing the magazines, iPad version is even smoother than on desktop!
I really hope they get rid of Adobe.

1. CPU intensive when running the download manager. Uses 100% of CPU when downloading a digital mag. Also, for those on Intel machines, this app has not been compiled as a UB.
2. This is not Leopard compatible. Will not open any old or new mags. As most of the reviewers have stated, obtaining support is futile.
At this point, this software is useless to me.
