Dashboard is a great addition to Tiger. Unfortunately it takes several seconds to load and refresh the widgets the first time you bring up Dashboard. DashboardStarter is a small application that brings up Dashboard and closes it right away. Drag the app to your login items and have Dashboard load the widgets in the background.

Excellent implementation, excellent distribution method - in all, a utility which should have been built-in to Dashboard as it shipped with Mac OS X.

As opposed to the similar "Dashboard Kickstart", this app does its thing then gets out of the way - which is the "right" way of implementing the desired behavior.

Kudos to the developer on a job very well-done.

It works !!
This is what should Dashboard have been in the first place, I can't understand why apple didn't something about it... Having to wait 7-8 seconds when you have a powerful machine for the dashboard to start is really a pain.
Apple, give a job to this guy and you'll be able to satnd for what you claim !!

I was very excited to see this widget, but I downloaded it and placed it in my login folder as the instructions said, but to no avail. I am still waiting the 8-9 seconds the first time I launch my dashboard. ??? Anyone?

This app works brilliantly for me. When you say you put it in the Login Items folder, do you mean that you created a folder and physically placed the file in it? or have you added DashboardStarter to Login Items in your System PreferencesLogin? The app should be in your Applications folder. Keep trying. The end of aggravating wait time is worth it!

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.

Click Login Items and then click Add (+).

Select an application, document, or server volume and click Add.

Click the Hide checkbox next to an item if you don't want a window for the item to open.
