1. WebObjects 5.3 is unstable for development at the moment, we wait for updates. (So we don't recommend updating to WO 5.3)
2. WO 5.3 is only available for OS X 10.4, many OS X Server admins still run on 10.3
We currently support both OS X 10.3 and OS X 10.4 by sticking to WebObjects 5.2.3 and 5.2.4
There will be a GroupVille version for WO 5.3 when the latter becomes more stable, hope this information helped.
