Always know what's happening around the world with News Reader, the new Dashboard widget that lets you easily view RSS news from any number of sources in a single widget. You can zip through headlines and summaries using just the arrow keys.

RSS is the same standard used by Safari RSS and many other news-reading applications. Most news sites and blogs have RSS feeds that let you see news headlines and summaries in News Reader.

Features

  • Unlimited number of feeds. Unlike other widgets, News Reader can display as many feeds as you want.
  • Complete summaries. News Reader displays complete news summaries, not just more...

What's New

Version 1.1.1:
  • Added Catalan and Spanish localizations.

Mac OS X 10.4 or later

From the Dev: "Sorry, the News Reader widget is no longer being supported and has stopped working reliably. It is no longer available for download. If you're a widget developer and are interested in taking it over, drop me a line."

Sorry to hear that. I've been using the widget for a long time now and love it. Can you recommend a similar widget?

As an RSS newb, this widget is perfect! It's immediately clear how to use and once it's set up, it's unobtrusive and flawless.

Like others here, I'd like to be able to use scrolling and I'd also love a sort feature for the feeds themselves.

Love. This. Widget.

Love the nice, simple, clean look.

I really love that it's not too memory-hungry.

I'd like to see 2 additions: scroll wheel support and the ability to choose background colors. (Hate to even ask, because it makes me seem ungrateful or hard-to-please.)

Great job. Thank you!

Yes, this is much more memory friendly than In the Know, but it needs notification of new posts (maybe a different color), a resizable window, and OPML import/export. Otherwise a great job! (I just started using it, so I'll hold off on a rating.)

Great stuff - miles ahead of anything similar, and I hope it knocks out the "one site only RSS reader widgets" which proliferate.

Could OPML import be considered for a future release? It would also be nice, if possible, to enable the mouse scroll wheel and also to allow the window to be vertically resized. But these are minor additions compared with the very full functionality already there!

Only one request; scroll-wheel support.

Otherwise, this is my favorite one!

This is probably the first Widget (other than the Apple Standard ones that came with Tiger) that I actually have use for. Really good work, keep it up guys!

2 things I would like to see if possible: Ability to rename the titles of the feeds, and also the ability to reorder the feeds.

Great app! I've been waiting this kind of multiple reader. There is couple of problems: every time when it's time to update (or manually) i get the message: News Reader suddenly quit. This happens with iMac G4 not on my new powerbook. Also on both macs this widget seems to scroll when ever it wants (usually not) - the sidebar usually works but sometimes stuck.

If News Reader is unexpectedly quitting, it would be great if you could send the following information to kazezb at carleton dot edu:

- The report (click "Report..." in the dialog box)
- The list of feeds you use
