Radar In Motion is a Dashboard widget that grabs radar images from the Weather Channel or NOAA and displays the animation. One can access the radar for a given city in the United States or get a regional map, including several international maps. The widget has options for displaying and updating the maps, including weather alerts and the ability to save maps for a specified period of time.
What's New
Version 2.6.2 (reports as 2.6.2):
Fixes weather alerts, which have apparently been broken for some time.
Also fixes access to National Weather Service maps.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

I like this widget. It displays the moving radar picture very well and lets you tailor it to your liking. You can adjust frame speed, source of the radar, how often it updates, how long it saves images and more. I'm very happy with it. Other widgets I've used stop updating and show you images or loops that are days old.
The only glitch seems to be with the posting of the latest version. No matter which link for version 2.6.2 I download (developer, Apple, MacUpdate) they say a newer version is available. Each version shows in the Finder as being 2.6.
A really useful widget. Occasionally fails to work but what do you want for free?
NOTE: there is a new version (2.6.2) that was just released on 4/9/11. There has been no update submitted to MacUpdate, apparently. Go to the developer's site for the link.
Stopped working altogether on 2 different computers running different versions of OS 10 (PPC 10.5 and intel 10.6) so does not appear to be a platform specific issue.
Not working under 10.6.6 on the new MacBook Pros (early 2011; Thunderbolt). Deleted widget and preferences, downloaded and reinstalled, also cleared cookies/cache all per recommendations at site. Each time it will eventually lock up Dashboard.
A quick read at the developer's site says he's stopped development, which is too bad. Haven't yet found a decent re-sizable radar widget to replace RIM.
this is a great widget. the interface still confuses me and it sometimes feels unresponsive, but it's amazingly useful.

RIM behaves strangely on Powerbooks when not connected to the internet. It displays the question mark icon and the progress bar loops over and over. What *should* happen is that the last set of maps should be retained until the next connection to the internet. As it is, it appears very unpolished.

Having it retain the last maps would be impossible unless you have it set to save maps. Otherwise, the widget needs to know to go into the cache, save the maps, and display them. This is not possible.
I have tried setting it to save maps, but it does not. At the moment, the widget looks broken when used on a laptop every time you disconnect from the internet. I'm not suggesting its broken, it is just not very functional on a powerbook.
You will have to be a little more specific than "the widget looks broken." When you say it won't save maps, do you mean the maps do not display or that they do not seem to be stored for any period of time? How does the widget look to be broken?
This app opens in less han a second and displays radar I usually have to pull up from accuweather's page - I don't install tons of these little widgets but this one is great - esp. with the winter weather moving in on us - to be able to pull up the radar this easily and quickly is a real time saver!

One of my all time favorite widgets, though 2.0 beta is very, very slow on a G4 with 1GB RAM. For now, I'm going back to the older version. 2.0b doesn't refresh as quickly, if at all, and takes way too much processing power, IMHO. Obviously, it does more, and is in beta, so I hope the fine Developer will find ways to fix it. Look forward to testing a final release.

This is odd as I am on a 1Ghz system with 1GB of RAM and have noticed very little, if any slowdown. If you have a lot of maps saved then yes, it will be a bit slower just by virtue of the fact that it is storing a lot more information and has a lot more maps to update. When you say it doesn't refresh, what do you mean? When trying to update to get new maps? When loading Dashboard and looking at the maps? For me, it has updated without any problems. If you have a large number of widgets, it is possible to experience a slowdown as well, with Dashboard needing to load its contents back into RAM on load. This will slow down RiM or any other widget.
As of a few days ago, my map is blank. The widget is now just a big black box on my dashboard. Doesn't seem to be loading maps from either source anymore.
