DevMode Widget has been discontinued

This widget enables the Dashboard Development mode for the current user. Development Mode (a.k.a devmode) allows widgets to move out of the dashboad layer and onto the desktop layer.

According to Apple's Developer Connection, "Viewing output, making changes, and reloading will be a much smoother process with your widget permanently visible."

Please read the FAQ before using this widget.

This widget works great. It just executes a single commend to turn on the DEV mode. (You can do that manually if you want via Terminal. But this is much more convenient).

But please note that the Widgets will FLAOT on top of all the Windows on your Desktop.
E.g. The weather widget will always floats on top of your Safari Window. This is annoying.

I found another FREE program -- Widget Runner -- which always you to specify whether or not you want a specific widget to always stay or top. Works great.

If you want a commercial program that does that, try mach Desktop. But unless you need the extra features of Mach Desktop. WidgetRunner is a clear choice.

I should also note that no matter what program you use, some widgets may not run well on the Desktop. But most do.

I use this all the time! This little widget installs and works instantly, turning the developer's mode off and on so you can drag widgets out of the Dashboard and onto your desktop.

I frequently want a widget on my desktop instead of having to go back and forth to the Dashboard. For example, Sing That iTunes. I want to play my iTunes and have Sing That iTunes add lyrics to my database in the background, but it can't do that if I'm working on the computer and the Dashboard is not active. I use DevMode to drag Sing That iTunes to my desktop and I'm getting lyrics all afternoon! when I'm done playing music, I just drag the Sing That iTunes widget back to the Dashboard.
