Lynx has become quite popular as a "Universal Access" web browser for the Visually handicapped. Though Lynx is limited as it does not support JavaScript.

Lynx was originally developed at the University of Kansas. In 1995 Lynx 2.4.2 was released under the GNU Public License by UKansas, since then it has been maintained and extended by a group of volunteers. This is the latest version, and has been compiled into an OS X package.

the description that this works in 10.2.8 is incorrect - it does not work with os x "jaguar" 10.2.8.

cannot download - has been sat here for 20 mins trying to download, just does nothing

The download link works. You may need to set your firewall for passive FTP, because the download is via FTP server.

They do have some HTTP download links on the homepage, but I don't remember if any of them work.

Version 2.8.6 downloaded via the MU link doesn't support SSL (tested on 10.3.9).

Double-checked the download link just now, it works. The trouble would appear to be local to your Mac.
