hotTunes provides convenient hot key access to routine actions you perform with iTunes. You can Pause or Play (launching iTunes if necessary), skip to the next or previous tracks, increase or decrease the volume, display information about the current track and rate your songs including half-star ratings.
What's New
Version 2.2:
  • Now a Universal binary (PowerPC and Intel Mac native code.)
  • Skipping backwards past the start of a song now skips to the correct point near the end of the previous song in the playlist (iTunes normally skips to the start of the previous song.)
  • The track position is displayed when you skip past the start or end of a sing (was displaying the track info.)
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

After hotTunes was released, I ditched SizzlingKeys for it as my default iTunes controller. The new 2.1 version adds album art display, an option to hide the Dock icon, and the ability to switch playlists -- finishing off the list of all the features I want.

I also find hotTunes to be more responsive than most other iTunes controllers. The effect of the key-combos happens almost immediately, even with a good deal of other things going on, whereas others lag for a second or two.

hotTunes also has AppleScript actions built in, so you can call various scripts if you intend to do something when the song changes, such as upload the track information to a website for display.

Now, I may be a bit biased, as I helped here and there with images and some beta testing, but I did so because I enjoy the program and think it's simply better than the rest. You can't beat the price, either. It's definitely worth a try.

A lot of neat features have been added, but I think the neatest one needs a little polish.

hotPlay
hotPlay should pop up a window and have 4 icons, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, that can be selected using the arrow keys. Then allow you to enter the criteria. I find this a lot easier than using keywords at the beginning of my search. Just my two cents.

Is that all you guys can say? Have you even tried it, or are you solely basing your comments on the screenshot?

So far, it's pretty basic, and I dig that. I don't need anything overly complicated.. just something so I can use hotkeys and display what song is playing, and this app fits the bill.

Some things I would add/change.. I don't really like it being in the dock, the menubar is a more suitable place for such a thing. I love being able to change the font and colors, but adding the ability to change the font of the album and artist details would be superb. Oh, and album art is always a nice feature. It's built right in iTunes, so not having an option to display it seems silly.

All in all, this is a great start. Pay no attention to comments that only mention other applications. There's nothing wrong with having choices, if you disagree you're a damn Commie. :)

Or how is this different than the free TuneKeys?

And this would be different to Synergy in what way?
