I also find hotTunes to be more responsive than most other iTunes controllers. The effect of the key-combos happens almost immediately, even with a good deal of other things going on, whereas others lag for a second or two.
hotTunes also has AppleScript actions built in, so you can call various scripts if you intend to do something when the song changes, such as upload the track information to a website for display.
Now, I may be a bit biased, as I helped here and there with images and some beta testing, but I did so because I enjoy the program and think it's simply better than the rest. You can't beat the price, either. It's definitely worth a try.

hotPlay
hotPlay should pop up a window and have 4 icons, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, that can be selected using the arrow keys. Then allow you to enter the criteria. I find this a lot easier than using keywords at the beginning of my search. Just my two cents.

So far, it's pretty basic, and I dig that. I don't need anything overly complicated.. just something so I can use hotkeys and display what song is playing, and this app fits the bill.
Some things I would add/change.. I don't really like it being in the dock, the menubar is a more suitable place for such a thing. I love being able to change the font and colors, but adding the ability to change the font of the album and artist details would be superb. Oh, and album art is always a nice feature. It's built right in iTunes, so not having an option to display it seems silly.
All in all, this is a great start. Pay no attention to comments that only mention other applications. There's nothing wrong with having choices, if you disagree you're a damn Commie. :)
