Blue Skies Mac Screensaver is a simple video of clouds moving across the mac desktop and very relaxing.
It didnt work on my macbook pro with intel core 2 duo processor. I am running mac osx 10.4.8
Nice Idea, but...
-Colour is indeed too 'blue'ish
-Loop doesn't work well; interupted with white screen each time movie starts
-No speed options; when I'd be able to adjust the speed (way down slower) the movie could last for some minutes -> that would be a lot better!
With some tweeking of this software it could get 5 stars for value (instead of 3 @ version 1.1); with some speed or colour options the features could also get some more stars. So... keep up the good work!
I wish the clouds were a bit more distinct (read: whiter) but the action of the screensaver is good, and a nice change
After installing and testing it from the SYSTEM PREFERENCES it did not want to stop anymore. It was very hard to find back the LIBRARY folder and remove it, I wouldn't recommend installing it!
I think "it didn't want to stop any more" is the real problem. :)
I've tried to encourage users not to test the saver for too long a period using the System Preferences. This is because the video footage is flash based and thus if the saver is on test mode, and then also trys to begin as the default screensaver, this freezing problem may occur due to processor usage. However in my tests the freezing wound down after a few moments. I've had Blue Skies on my widescreen powerbook 1.4G OSX for 3 months and it is quite smooth and never had a problem. Unfortunately I dont have the resources to test across multiple system speeds, but older systems might diplay a bit choppy (since it is flash based).
I'd love to provide larger file sizes (better quality) but the bandwidth would kill me financially. This 10MB saver has become so popular that I've had to buy an extra 25 gigs a month and a radical re-think. So we're opening macscreen.com soon and hope charging a small subscription will help pay for the bandwidth. Over the next few months I'll be releasing 7 savers displaying stylised footage of water and clouds moving or flying through clouds. I think them fairly unique in that they're fullscreen video based and for similar quality are only between 5 - 10MB in size, and not 25MB or 40MB. After a lot of hard work and testing I think we've succesfully reached a good compromise between file size and quality.
