Highlight lets you import items to the Spotlight index via Drag & Drop which are not indexed by default (for example the /System folder). It can also display Spotlight related info for items as GUI frontend for the mdls terminal command.

Hey, this little gem really saved me. It does exactly what it says it will do. It updates the index for Spotlight so it can see all the enclosed items contained in the folder you've dropped on the app.s window.
...this is good!

I tried this iten to get spotlight to search my chat sessions in Fire. Although I tried adding the sessions folder, and after that individual session files, neither one seemed to take. I could search for terms I KNEW were in the sessions and spotlight couldn't find them.

Doesn't seem to work at this time.

I tried this app because I did notice that Spotlight wasn't retrieving all results (see my previous post). This app didn't help, and in fact looks like it hurt. Even fewer results showed up after indexing main folders using Highlight. So, I deleted Highlight, called Mac Tech Support. They walked me through some troubleshooting steps, I restarted, and now Spotlight works as advertised. I retrieves *everything* including files I've never accessed before.

Not sure if I'm using this app correctly. I dragged my Applications, Library, and Users folders into Highlight. Applications and Library took a long time. However, files within these folders still do not show up in Spotlight until I open them. Do you need to add every folder and sub-folder you want indexed?

This is great...it would be nice if there was a way to also force-remove things from the index (sometimes using the 'privacy' preference doesn't quite work) would be a much-appreciaited feature.
