Pipe helps you write, test, and debug shell scripts quickly while using your favorite text editor. It is also ideal for learning scripting languages. You can filter text through your scripts, and see the script source, input, and output simultaneously. In addition to simple text scripts, Pipe supports scripts which output images (JPEG, PNG, PDF, etc.) or HTML code.

Pipe also provides a system-wide service so you can feed text from any application through your scripts.
What's New
Version 1.3.4 (maintenance release):
  • Fixed a problem where Pipe would not run correctly on Intel Macs.
  • Pipe now requires Mac OS X 10.4; it may run on previous versions, but they are no longer supported.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.4, BSD subsystem (installed by default).

Pipe is an excellent tool for those who want to learn to write and test their shell scripts easily. Pipe scripts run flawlessly in Cocoa apps through the Services menu. To use Services/Pipe/Through Script..., simply add one or more scriptname.pipe files to Script Browser by dragging and dropping. The script can then be run on any selected text in a newly launched Cocoa app. Some scripts will perhaps work better with Pipe Services than with, for example, TextExtras, though the latter seems more flexible. Some text editors allow you to run and edit a script but are not so intuitive and easy to use as Pipe 1.1, not to mention that they are much more expensive. I can only hope that its script library will continue to grow and that in a future version Pipe will stand out as a unique tool of its kind.

Well done ! Such a tool should be included by default in any developer tool.
Pipe can be used with BBEdit, SubEthaEdit and TextMate as external editor but what about the others ? I wish I could select any other text editor in a next version.

$14.95? That's ridiculous. I wouldn't even pay $4.95 for this. If it was free, I'd consider downloading it, but as-is, from the description, it's not worth paying for.

I agree. It's an okay little tool, but certainly not worth paying for.
