This is a public beta release of soulseeX, a SoulSeek client for Macintosh OS X. A lot of time and effort have gone into making this software a quality stable product. However, be aware that this is BETA quality software. Some features you may expect may be missing and others may not work as you expect them to. You may also experience crashes and other bugs with this software.
What's New
Version 1.0b6:
Added a "Get Soulseek Privileges" item to the soulseeX menu. Note: you can no longer donate to Soulseek directly through their homepage you must do it through a slsk client.
isoul is buggy. ssx has some unfinished features but works and if you place its windows with the help of divvy or sizeup, it makes up for the divided gui. they're both abandoned, tho.
soulseek and winmx are the 2 apps i miss from windows (never cared about other distributed network apps which only let you search for individual songs).
could soulseekqt be our last hope for the real thing on osx?
Well, the soulseekqt I downloaded from here: http://www.slsknet.org/news/node/1 (nightly build 7), is the best soulseek client I've used on Mac so far. Haven't tested it extensively, but the search and download appear to work well.
thanks. last time i checked the download page they didn't have mac ready releases. scrolling a file list or user list (in a room) is very slow, tho (cpu activity increases).
Works great for a few minutes, then hangs, then hangs other applications, then hangs the mouse. Memory management seems to be at fault. (This is on a PPC eMac 1.4 with a gig ram). Shame, because the connection and upload/download management knocks spots off any file-sharing competition.
Good, stable Soulseek client for OS X... desperately needs to be updated though, as it still is only a PowerPC native app. However, I have used it for many hours at a time on an Intel Mac, it all works as it should, and has never crashed on me. Interface seems a bit out-dated (multiple windows everywhere) but at least it exists and works.
This is an excellent and efficient Soulseek client. It runs very fast and always updates files on my ibook flawlessly.
I am ashamed that fellow users are cussing at the nonstandard window display, when they are most likely using the client because the many features they like.
Maybe have an option to unify the windows into one with tabs? I know you must be busy also, so no worries. If the next release turns out to be as useful as this one, I will definately start contributing.
update this application please! with each osx update its getting more and more buggier plus make the whole dam application unified instead of multiple windows, they take up alot of screen space
i like the multiple windows, personally. Part of the reason things take up so much space is that SoulSeek has so much information to display. I wouldn't be opposed to unifying the interface into one window... but it would have to be done VERY well... not just for the sake of making it take up less space.
