cleanarchiver is the perfect counterpart to the unarchiver.

compresses files in an individual package or separated each in their own package (batch processing of individual items, any devs listening?), splitting, encryption, zip, 7zip, gz and dmg (support for a native os x format seems only natural in a osx app, any devs listening?), resource fork cleaning and all this by dragging and dropping or by the services menu. it processes and quits after execution, doesn't stay open in your dock like you wanna look at it doing nothing(any devs listening?).

for those who wonder, i don't mean to be arrogant, i'm just frustrated when an app designer doesn't explore all the usage possibilities. os x is known to have half-baked apps, forcing you to use 2 or 3 to do 1 thing.

btw, did i mention korean software is great?

does anyone know if there is a way to designate a destination for the archive?

If there's some way to make CleanArchiver archive to a specific location, then it would have every feature we need.

Great App! Exactly what I needed - simple interface + drag ´n drop functionality !!
forget about other bloated archiver or eye candy- appz.
This is the one I´rather support to see it developed further!

I´d like to see splitting archives, but nothing else.

Thanks for making it freeware!

That's a absolute great app!
From it's Blog, looks like it's hard to see a release version. I'm waiting the final v3.0...

Thanks! I've been looking a graphical zip archive utility that can encrypt files, works with Snow Leopard and is free. (See http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=939443 for the whole story.)

I modified it and embeded info-zip and 7zip into it.
I added multi-volumes archives, compress ratio and password options.
Zip archive mode supports an option to customize filename encoding such as Windows codepages. 7zip supports an options to convert Unicode normalization in NFC which is well used in Windows and Linux. Above two options will help the users who use non-ascii filenames when exchanging archive between Mac and Windows & Linux.
You can use this freely. If you have any questions or problems, ask me anything, please.

This is exactly what I've been looking for!

One suggestion though. When adding individual files that aren't inside a folder, it will keep the extension in the file name after archiving. For instance, after archiving this app to a .zip archive, the new name is CleanArchiver2.4a2.dmg.zip. If you could allow this app to remove the .dmg file extension (or any other extension for that matter - - like YemuZip does), that would be great.

A must have.
If I had a wish open, I would join Fossman's request from March 6th 2005 concerning the 7-zip/ 7z format. Or at least RAR with password protection?
Many thanks to the dev.
