MiNews is an RSS-based news aggregator application for Mac OS X. It provides a sortable table of news items, and contains built-in web browsing capability, avoiding the need to open a second application to view news links. It also allows integration with a user's address book to allow news links to be sent to selected users, via built-in email functionality. Feed icons aid quick identification of news sources.

Nice insterface and implementation. Lack of Atom support and importing of OPML file with groups make it a no go... I hope the dev include these soon.

wow, lightyears ahead of the last release. unfortunately, it still needs a lot of work before it can unseat NNW.

needs: tabs, font customization, better handling of groups, user specified organzation and other stuff I can't think of.

it's a great price now, but I only wonder how much longer until the developer starts to charge...

Fabulous. You guys have been extremely responsive to emails I sent even though I sent them anonymously. Beautiful interface, easy to use, and, well, you can't beat the price. I have no doubt this will become the main newsreader for os x after a few more releases. Great job.

actually, Safari will have built in RSS capability so that'll be the main news reader. The developer's gotta give us a reason to stray.

First, the developer was VERY fast in replying to my email. And effective.

Second, some people may be having crashes because they have atom feeds. My understanding is that this version (.3) does not support atom rss.

Very pretty and I like the GUI. Needs some work on keyboard shortcuts and reading single feeds. Very promising.

I have yet to find an RSS reader that doesn't piss me off in some way or another.

NetNewsWire is fast, functional, but ugly.
PulpFiction is ugly and slow (sorry, Erik.)

NewsFire is speedy and beautiful, but Watanabe is a greedy asshole (and I really don't want to pay him.)

MiNews looks similiar to NewsFire (good) but is slower than PulpFiction, and doesn't have very good UI functionality when compared to NewsFire.

How can there be a newsreader with no previews? How come it's so damn slow?

We are constantly working on speeding up our software and to make it more easy to use.

In the next few releases you will see these kind of improvements.

Preview is something you will see very soon.

I like the look and feel of MiNews a lot. It seems to have great potential. I'm sorry to say, however, that the current version (.23) is plagued by constant crashes on my PowerBook. I cannot manually update my feeds without a crash.

We caught one bug in earlier version where the Tahoma font used in the badge icon was not installed or enabled.

However there may still be issues with the cache or malformed feeds.

Please follow the steps on the web-page.
Add one feed at the time and refresh.

A nice update, its coming along pretty good.
An installer, come-on, what happened to good old drag and drop into the applications folder ?

Very nice app... Once the GUI improves a bit more (most likely becomes more Tiger-ish), this could end up in direct competition with NewsFire. The interface is admittedly not as good, the extra features are a huge plus.

Also the built-in browser is great, but it would be nice if it supported tabs and didn't auto-switch every time you click a feed so you could open everything you want to read, then switch over to the browser and go through them all.

Anyway, this is certainly a great app with a bright future. Looking forward to the next version =)

Is this going to be free during development and then switch to shareware? I wouldn't mind if developers do this if they would be up-front about it in their descriptions here. I just dislike being surprised by finding the next update of a previously described free application to cost money. I wouldn't have invested time in using them if I had known that.

I don't mind people making shareware and I hope people who do make bucketloads of money. I just would like to know beforehand if I'm using shareware-to-be or not.

I e-mailed the developer and got an on-the-fence reply. It may go shareware or it may not. The important thing, I was told, is that they're using this opportunity to improve their OS X developing skills.

I don't like the "maybe, maybe not" approach, but MiNews is free for now and it might stay that way. There was never a chance with NewsFire.

BTW the feed i tried to insert (after deleting the standard Yahoo one, so the list was empty, if that matters) was that of MacFixIt; http://www.macfixit.com/backend/macfixit.rss
