necflashX is a simple GUI for the necflash (binflash) utility.

The necflash command line utility allows you to flash and dump your DVD burner firmware and let you query or set the booktype of your drive. You can change the booktype settings for DVD+R, DVD+R-DL and DVD+RW to different settings. For more information visit the binflash homepage.

Was having trouble burning 8 speed Dual Layer DVD's on my NEC 4570. It would just eject them so I decided to use this. It would not install the .Bin file I had so I used a .exe file instead and crossed my fingers. The program acts a bit loopy, but I could see it was doing something. After a restart the System Profiler showed the Firmware Update had been applied. All good so far, next, the acid test. It burned the 8 speed Dl's just fine. Amazing.

NecFlashX cannot handle spaces in the path to the application. Does not recognize my NEC 3520A in a firewire case, even though System Profiler does. Poor grammar and spelling ("closes the 'hole' application").

i tried to get necflash running, but I keep getting this error.
(Im using a G4 400mhz Mac OSX 10.2.8 no dev tools installed)

Here is the error message.
It keeps repeating.

great utility. I managed to update the firmware on my NEC3520A no problem. The biggest problem was finding a bin flash file that was NOT part of a windoze exe!

Any OS X already has a PHP interpreter as far as I know. In any case, I didn't install one, and it worked great.

MacRob, you don't need to look for a Mac file. Just use the original exe file and it will work fine!

Can I make my NEC 2500A work (& burn) on my PPC G4?

...& what is that PHP Interpreter? do I need it to get it working? Where can I get it?

JellyLab, sounds more like you need PatchBurn - that's what I needed to get burning working with my 2510A.

You can find a PHP Interpreter at

and it's easy to install.

Is it not within the BSD subsystem ?
I dont install any other PHP software, only the bsd subsystem and it worked perfect.
