Emacs is back with a vengeance. I recently got a new MacBook and have developed the need for some native Emacs goodness.
I looked around (though not too hard) and didn't see any other Emacs binaries except for Aquamacs, but it is too divergent from normal Emacs behavior for me. You may like it if the idea of multiple files open in a single window scares you or you are one of those who've actually used the menus in Emacs. Or maybe you want Command-O to open a file instead of using C-x C-f. I sure don't. I want my emacs to work like emacs and not like a Mac. :-) No offense to the

it's too slow. even the xcode editor is faster

I have downloaded the dmg file twice now. The current file claims to have "no mountable file systems".
Could someone check and post a working version?
Bad dmg-file aside, Emacs ROCKS!

The one true editor! I've been using the Carbon builds for about 8 months now and they are great, and should make most Emacs users very happy.
Really folks, if you're interested in Emacs, get the darwinports version and build it yourself.
For those who haven't used emacs before, it's a programmers editor with only the very, very basic of features not available to completely rearchitect on the fly. It's very powerful, but won't read your word documents. Just saving those who might be thinking that wasted effort.

Emacs will do anything, including read Word documents.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to read the Word document in Emacs.

Installed it, doubleclicked the application, nothing happened.

Same problem here. Look at hte crashreporter logs. The problem is a file /usr/lib/libncurses.5.dylib. The program apparently wants version 6. I have no clue how to obtain the correct file. This file in not in the package.

Yes, the new Emacs is looking for a newer (6) library than what's installed (5).

It works here. Maybe you need the dev tools installed?

Does anyone know: where do you get the version 6 referred to in the earliest post? I have the dev tools cd installed already.
Thanks.

At any rate, I set up a script to build emacs from CVS every week. It will build on whatever version of OS X I happen to be using at the time and so these may or may not work for you. Also keep in mind these are pre-release snapshots from the Emacs cvs server and so again, they may not work for you.
If you download a build, please use the thumbs up and thumbs down pointer for that build to indicate whether or not it worked for you (rather than sending me email). Thanks
