KrossWordz is a elegant and affordable crosswords client.
It can open any crosswords puzzle saved in the Across Lite puzzle format. It also offers to download daily puzzles from several online sources. All of that in a clean and intuitive aqua interface.
What's New
Version 1.9.1:
Fixed the congratulations message which was missing the elapsed time to solve the puzzle.
Why are you now included this separate .dmg with automatic A-Dock updates via the "MacUpdate Desktop" application?! I don't want or need this puzzle app installed every time I update A-Dock.
Great app. I was considering the purchase of Black Ink but was put off by the high price tag of $25. Then I found Krosswordz, which is even better than its competitor and has a more realistic price. Already registered... all future upgrades are free too! What are you waiting for?
Krosswordz is actually better than its higher-priced competitors. All I use a crossword client for is a) getting and b) printing puzzles. Krosswordz prints puzzles better.
Thank GOD! Finally, a crossword client that spells "crosswords" the wrong way. Sometimes I have difficulty using clients that spell it correctly; they just don't fit my needs as someone who likes to replace "s" with "z" and "c" with "k".
Agreed, it's a stupid name. Too many people think it's clever to misspell the name of a product or business, when actually it's lazy and unoriginal.
I'm trying to picture the developer naming this app:
"hmmm, what to call this? Well it does crossword puzzles, so I'll call it 'Crosswords'. No, wait! That's too lame, it needs a twist, something to grab users' attention. Uhhhhh....Yes, that's IT! I shall call it 'KrossWordz'! Oh how clever I am!"

Version 1.4 crashes on launch. I'm using OS X 10.4 Tiger.

The only thing preventing me from using Krosswordz instead of the ugly and not Mac-like Across Lite is the fact that on scrambled puzzles (in my case, the New York Times crosswords), you can't enter a password to unscramble the puzzle. Krosswordz is only able to go online and see if an unscrambled version of the puzzle is available - which isn't too helpful if you've just completed a scrambled one. If the developer could fix this, I would GLADLY pay $8 for it.

Sorry, but this will probably never happen.
Literrate Software is the owner of the Across Lite file format. They do not provide any documentation for third-party applications to read such files.
Although it's pretty straight-forward to extract the basic information from these files, it's a different story with scrambled puzzles. Without any help from Literrate Software, I won't be able to find the right algorithm to unscramble such a puzzle.
The only thing I can do is to check if the website that has originally published this scrambled crossword has now published an unscrambled version. This happens with the Washington Post sunday puzzles. But if you have downloaded a scrambled puzzle from a source not supported directly by KrossWordz, I won't be able to find any unscrambled puzzle....

Provides elegant and uncluttered access to crosswords including several free daily online ones. (Unfortunately many newspaper crossword sections are now subscription services and the daily fix is getting expensive!)
