A bit too expensive, and very seldom get updated.

would be nice a bit more updates /features for a software that costs 200$. i switched to Fast Track due to this as merlin felt "old" after 2 years and basically no updates except 1 small fix.

Prior to today's fix, these have been the improvements within the last 2 years:
Resolved Issues in Merlin

Under Mac OS 10.7, scrolling in the Gantt chart could result in a blurry time ruler.
In some configurations it could take a long time to save changes.
Under Mac OS 10.7, files extracted from file elements had a wrong creation date.
Sometimes approved budgets were not refreshed correctly when linked projects were loaded.
Approved budgets could not be deleted.
Under Mac OS 10.7, the print preview was not centered correctly.
Copying activities with attached events could lead to a crash.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Web

Under some circumstances, wrong calendar weeks were displayed in the time ruler.
Entering duration units within resource rates did not work correctly.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Server

Under Mac OS 10.7, sharing projects with special characters in their filenames was not possible.

New Features in Merlin

NovaMind 5 files can be imported now.
In Merlin lost licenses can be requested now.

Resolved Issues in Merlin

MindManager files exported from Merlin could not be opend by MindManager 9 under Windows.
Importing of CSV files could mess up when some key fields were empty.
Completed milestones from OmniPlan 1 were not completed after import in Merlin.
The import of contacts from LDAP servers did not work correctly.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Web

Projects containing an UniCode linebreak in texfields could not be displayed in the the web. Printing did not work properly.

This is the best. I've tried several others including OmniPlan. This is the best that I had found.

I'm not going to review or rate Merlin because I haven't used it in many years (I think 2006 was the last time I used it). At the time, there really wasn't a project management app for the Mac that had all the features I needed, so I ended up going with MS Project running on Windows in Virtual PC. It was barbaric, but it worked.

As I was trying all the different Mac PM apps, I came across Merlin. The interface was terrific, the software was intuitive, and the support was great…no wait, it was better than that. The support was awesome.

The only reason I didn't end up using Merlin as my main PM app was because at that time it didn't have resource leveling, which was an absolute requirement for me. (In checking the current user guide, I see that resource leveling is now included in Merlin.)

But even without resource leveling, Merlin was so easy to use and created such great looking graphics that I used it for my project status reports. And now that it has resource leveling, if I needed a PM app, I'd use Merlin in a heartbeat based on my earlier experience.

Very good application, but I only had use for it once. So if someone is interested in a license please feel free to write to onemerlinlicenseforsale@googlemail.com .
It's an EDU license, use for commercial projects is permitted whether you're a student or not anymore.

I am a project manager by trade working in the Netherlands on a 150 person project for a phone company. I run a low spec Apple Macbook with Merlin Project on it.

I've been using Merlin for 10 months now on this project. My teams plan has 532 Activities. I update this on a daily basis as per progress. There are no stability problems that I can see and even annoying usability bugs have now gone. The layout and presentation are the envy of my fellow MSproject users. I have to export from Merlin to them every week also. This is easy - just 'export' instead of 'save'. no complaints.

The overall project plan is larger at 662 activities. It was created in MSproject and imported into Merlin. This is done by double clicking the project file on the my mac and then merlin and the project open. Easy.

Overall, I think Merlin is not bad value for money. If you love Mac and are running a project, then you have to have a planning tool. This looks good and runs stable. I've not had any corrupt project files or crashes. Check out the price of MS Project... €400-500 and it looks shabby. Sure you can buy cheaper Mac planners... but how much is your time worth to sweat with something that is not smooth?

This is one of the best project management packages on the market at the moment I can't comment on previous versions, but I tested this along with a couple of other packages and this came out trumps by a long way. Great product for those looking to do professional project management.
