Attention! Apple OS 10.3.6 update and PHR-100AC, 100AF, 250CC and 500BC hard driver enclosures:

The recent OS 10.3.6 update causes above listed PHR Firewire400 hard drive enclosures fail to mount in Desktop. This problem does not occur in other Macally Firewire400 and Firewire800 enclosure models. If you are the affected user, please follow the instructions and download the utility and new firmware 4.70 file to correct the problem.

Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.3 to 10.3.5.

Where are the directions? I downloaded the "In1430_470.UPD" file. Now what?

Just wacky, wild, and crazy guess... did you try double-clicking on the downloaded file and just follow the directions thenceforth?

c'mon now, let's be civil. There is no file association for .UPD file on my computer either, so double-clickin just brings up [choose application] window....

Macally Firewire Update utility has successfully restored my Macally PHR-100AC to being mounted on the desktop.
Used a second machine on 10.3.5 to install patch.
Suggest following this link as instructions are more complete than macupdate site
