I agree: t is not cheap, ...but it can do what other apps can't do.
I particularly like "Emersion Mode".

They say: "Earlier one had to thoroughly select an object before pasting it into a new background; with this software this tedious part of work drops out. You can concentrate on the creative part and forget about complicated selection techniques."

If literally true, this program would outdo Photoshop. I spend a lot of time carefully in PS carefully selecting objects. I'm skeptical that Chameleon does it well and effortlessly. Seems more likely that it's pretty quick at roughly selecting the object. One can always lower standards and get faster results.

For a different type of collage (fitting multiple images together in various grid patterns) I like Posterino. Especially like the ease of applying a group of photos to a template. And the ease of deleting and resizing the individual photo frames.

If you pay $800 for Photoshop then I think you should be the one that holds on. I get the whole Creative Suite educational for $449 and if I wanted photoshop extended by itself I would pay $180. My advice is get the educational discount somehow and never pay full price.

hey why not just steal a copy of photoshop and save yourself even more money! It's pretty unfair to compare prices of software when you start talking versions that may be legally inappropriate. As a graphic design business, the full Creative suite costs around $2000-3000, you can't use and educational price as your comparison... (p.s. I have never used this software either)

I can use an educational price for comparison if I feel like it. If you think using Photoshop educational is legally inappropriate then goody for you. To me it feels just fine. (I'm an educator) And what a nice person you are to suggest that I steal a copy. Seems like words coming from someone who knows a lot about stealing.

You're an educator, hip horay for you...then yes you can buy an education version...so of course if feels fine for you. But you can't tell everyone else they should if they should in fact use the full commercial version, so yes you can advise there are cheaper versions of photoshop, but you can't tell everyone to use the edu version and never pay full price... oh wait, you're an educator so you must be smarter than the rest of us...
(p.s. I do own the full commercial CS suite as that is what feels fine to me, whilst my wife has an edu version as she is a student)
(p.p.s I do agree however this software is generally too expensive for what it does, I just don't think you can say the full version of photoshop is that cheap for EVERYONE.)

On their website Adobe currently offers Photoshop CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Edition for $199. And the full Creative Suite Design Premium Student and Teacher Edition for $449. By the way you have to prove your eligibility to get the discount. Adobe wants you to buy their stuff.

Too limited and way too expensive...save your money and get photoshop and do all of the same things and so much more. I would pay $10 for this.

Hang on ... this program (which I have no experience with so I'm not defending it) is $75. Photoshop is something like $800. Now, I love me some Photoshop but if all you want to do is this one particular thing, $75 looks to me like about 1/10th the cost of PS.

AKVIS Chameleon Deluxe is an efficient tool for photo collage creation. This ingenious software makes the process easy and entertaining. Earlier one had to thoroughly select an object before pasting it into a new background; with this software this tedious part of work drops out. You can concentrate on the creative part and forget about complicated selection techniques.

The program is available in two editions - as an independent program standalone program and as a plug-in to a photo editor.

The software has four modes:

Montage. In this mode the program combines images to create a seamless photo montage. It transfers selected objects to a new background and makes the irrelevant parts of the pasted fragment fade away. The object does not change its color range or opacity, only its edges adapt to the new environment and get smoothed. This mode is good to use for creating photo collages with people (pasting a person into a new background).

Chameleon. In this mode the program adjusts the pasted fragment to the target image color range and smoothes the object's borders. It looks similar to the way a chameleon adapts to the environment.

Blend Mode. In this mode the program does not only smoothen the borders of the pasted object and adjusts its color range, but it also makes the object semi-transparent, so that the texture and the relief of the primary image can be seen through. Use this mode if you want to «dissolve» the pasted image in the background.

Emersion Mode. In Emersion mode, like in Montage mode, the program combines images to create a seamless photo montage. The difference between the two is that in Emersion Mode the pasted fragment does not overlay the background, but embeds into the background so that only certain parts of the fragment are visible. This mode allows making montages with difficult objects (trees, etc).

The tool is very easy to handle as it does not require precise selection of objects.

You can use AKVIS Chameleon in many ways. You can create customized postcards for your loved ones; make a wedding album using all kinds of photos and backgrounds; correct closed eyes (by implanting open eyes from another photo of the series), change the appearance of a person, etc.

Designers will appreciate this tool as it allows them to combine images with entirely different color ranges, to create the effect of drawing on a texture surface (crumpled paper, wood, etc), and all that with only a mouse-click.

The official web-site (http://akvis.com) offers numerous examples and ideas on using AKVIS Chameleon application.
