DesktopEarth 3D is a tool to visualize our planet. It uses a combination of satellite imagery and calculated data to provide real time views of the entire globe. DesktopEarth 3D features real-time cloud maps, simulated horizons and live pictures of the moon and the sun superimposed on your choice of earth map. It also calculates the sunrise, sunset and current solar elevation for any location you choose. Coupled with a 3D Globe as a screensaver, DesktopEarth 3D is both a useful educational tool and a fascinating toy.

X Planet IMHO is much better and it's free.....

The large icons and s-l-o-w speed really make this application feel clunky. While the graphics are ok, they are still grainy... not much has changed to justify a full version number upgrade.

It automatically opens the preferences window every time it starts, which makes it slower. It is also odd to do that, since there is no need to change preferences all the time at that point.

Other than that, nice update from the Pro version.

A nice feature might be to allow users to place the sun and moon images at any position on the screen.
