Due to legal threats from Apple to the developer, iPodDownload is no longer being distributed. And even if it was, it wouldn't work with the modern iTunes. I was a great program. But it's dead

This program is good and offers another alternative for itunes, http://www.ipod-vibez.com offers more alternatives with good music and movie download site listings which work with Mac and PC and offer unlimited downloading unlike itunes

was a great little tool, and i held off updating itunes incase apple were trying to kill it again (plus, none of the updates were of any use to me at all), but then my ibook blew up and the oldest version of itunes i could get for my new machine was 4.8 and now iPodDownload won't work.

anyone who has an ipod and is lucky enough to have 4.7 keep it and get this.

damn apple for a] killing this tool and b] not including this facility from the off.

hopefully development will continue but with apple issuing cease and desist orders against the hosting company and releasing updates just to disable this, it i hold out little hope, me, i'm gonna go try and find 4.7 again

I am not by far an Apple fan, but maybe this will help, I would have tested it if I had an updated 4.7, but I don't. maybe if no one here has tried this yet, this will be a godsend.

This was a really good plugin for iTunes, but now I must use Senuti (which is very good as well) since I´ve upgraded to Tiger and also iTunes 4.9... I like to have the latest. I wish someone would update the plugin...

The solution to get ipoddownload work again is simply to... get back to itunes 4.7, saving your library first! I did it, and it works just fine again...! Who needs 4.7.1!?...No need if you don't use an ipod shuffle anyway...!

if you look really hard on the internet u will be able to find a copy of 4.7 and then it works fine. u have to remember to delete the itunes receipts in your root lib directory otherwise the installation will be disabled if u are reverting from 4.7.1 (this should be done from the terminal window)

it would be great to support Playlists on iPod. And something like SharedMusicDownload :))

For iTunes 4.7.1:

Just open up iTunes executable (iTunes>Contents>MacOS>iTunes) in HexEdit.

Search for the ASCII field of iPod. it will show iPod Download. Change that text, being sure to keep the same number of characters. e.g. iPdo Donwlaod

I tried doing that but Itunes would not open after

I was successful in changing the name of "iPod Download" within the executable to "iPdo Dwonlaod", but the plugin still will not copy to library.
So sad. I can't believe Apple would impose such tyranny on legit customers.

well... i'm trying to cope with the same problem... just wanted to say: apple is not what it used to be. there was a big story about "the dark side of the apple" in todays newspaper here in switzerland... hope that we will get our update soon.

Followed the HEXEDIT instructions on a copy of iTunes 4.7.1. Put original iTunes in trash (but don't empty trash) Reboot then empty Trash and "new" iTunes and iPodDownloading is working great....

tried Chris's workaround above and it works a treat. Remember to go back to the macOS folder in the new iTunes and check that there is only one iTunes doc in there, not two (had me stumped for a minute)
