I've purchase a license for version 2.x but installing the latest 2.x version rejects my license.
All attempts to contact the author is met with silence.
From my lack of response, I don't think the author has any serious interest in supporting this software.

Pros: This app is very organizational. There's a place where you can put down your tasks, assignments, a calender (that you can only export to ical and textedit but not vice versa), you can distinguish projects from assignments, a basic GPA calculator, a textbook input where you can put down everything down about it, a professor information input (but they have to be in your address book, I find that a pain). And for $8 it's pretty good. Plus the $4 online syncing for every 6 months, you're paying for bandwidth so it makes sense. It gets your job done and keeps you very organized. And you can configure your settings and text fields so only shows information to your liking especially when you're inputting courses or textbook information.
Cons: Every time I open the app, it has problems syncing online. I have to go through preferences and sync it myself. It's not a huge problem however. For a planner that does this much maybe $8 is worth it, but keep in mind if you want it to sync you have to pay $8 ($4 for every 6 months) for you mobile-ipod touch on the go. Most of us get tired of carry our laptops everywhere, so it would make sense for this feature to be added. But you're paying more, so is it all really worth it? I don't recommend this app for long term use.
There's an iphone/ipod app called "iHomework" it's only 2 bucks and syncs over a wifi network. (and that folks, is free). There's color coding for every assignment ranging from Test, Quiz, Reading, etc. There's an advanced grading option where you can input percentages such as Homework, Quizzes, Tests to calculate your grade quickly and painlessly. You can export your calender to iCal.
The difference is there's no textbook input but it does everything Assignment Planner can do but it's way cheaper in the long run. The Mac Desktop App itself is free, but if you want to edit your tasks and reminders on the go it's a measly 2 dollars.

I know I shouldn't be reviewing two products but if you want more bang for your buck I would just stay away from this application if you really want to use this as a phone AND Mac friendly application.
I feel ripped off and to those of you reading my review might as well go check it out. They both do a lot but bottom line is why pay for something X4 as much when "iHomework" does that and more?

Things I think are well done:
The filtering by course is really easy to use and is a quick way to find assignments.
The GPA and Finals calculator is nice, and I would use it, except that it doesn't include support for GPAs that are not 4.0-based.
The program as a whole feels solid and performs well.
Things I think could use some work:
Only one file can be added to an item, which for me feels incomplete because I often have multiple PDFs and documents that go with an assignment.
Don't really understand if the notes feature is for lecture notes, as it doesn't have any ability for rich text or adding pictures or anything.
I like the calendar view, it allows for easy viewing of what is coming up, but it seems to lock up on me whenever I try to drag assignments between dates. If I switch to list view and back again, it is useable again.
The dashboard widget is nice but it isn't quite useable since it doesn't allow checking-off when an assignment is done, you have to launch the application to edit anything.
After trying this out, I think I will stick with my original choice, which is Schoolhouse 2 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21783). It has more features and is completely FREE. For a college student that's a godsend.

The interface is beautiful, the software is easy to use awnd does the job very well. Also, 5$ is REALLY reasonable.

It's great to know that this developer is willing to help with any problems, and the program has really been advanced and polished since the first version I used. It's easy to manage all my courses' homework; I used this program a little bit in high school, and it also works great for my college.
If you need to organize your assignments, this is THE program to do it (and the price is negligable, even for a college student!). Try it out before you buy it; you won't be disappointed.

Not ready fro prime-time. Event hough it is "free" it is not reliable enough to use for tracking my college coursework.
That being said, I think there is some decent promise here..especially since there is practically no software in this genre.
