Application lacks an interface to rapidly enter a list of words rapidly, instead requiring the user to edit the entries in the table directly. This will prove to be a serious handicap for most users when setting up an initial wordlist of any considerable length.

Furthermore, app lacks an interface to import or export wordlists to text files or other applications. Not a serious drawback for many users. Compensated for by author's website where users may share their word lists.

Overall appearance of interface: I could do without the metal window, but know how to change it if I really cared. This is purely a matter of taste, but Apple HIG recommend not using it for this type of app. It is also very distracting to have selectable table columns when selection appears not to have any function. This table feature is easily switched off in Interface Builder. Instead of separate buttons, columns should sort by clicking in header cell.

Did not test the "quiz" mode, but if authors assertions are valid, the testing has some advanced features like testing on poorly-known items more often.

ProVoc is a free alternative to this, but lacks a website where users can share files. I consider this a VERY strong feature of MemoRust. With a little more work this will be a very nice app.

Addenda to above review:

App should not use an installer (or stuffit, for that matter); in this case the installer writes to /Applications. User may not have privileges to write there. Absolutely NO need for an installer - far better to use a zip archive or something similar.

Also not terribly impressed with Unicode support. At least it is an option, which is essential. But entering glyphs one at a time from the Character palette is hardly a practical solution. That said, sticky keyboard mapping is not easy to implement either. I can't say I would know how to do it myself - but if you can implement it in an app like this, the world (well, a small part of it) will be at your feet.

A good start, but the availability of languages at the moment is very minimal.

Personally, I'm looking forward to an English/Latin word list.

Good luck!
