Didn't work with the MF190 or the X220D under Lion. Basically seemed in September that it wasn't functional under OS X Lion

Hello,

thank you for your comment. launch2net Premium works fine with OS X 10.7.

The X220D seems to be a modem from Alcatel, which is not supported. We have a list of supported modems on the website for launch2net Premum.

The MF190 from ZTE is supported. The reason why it is not
detected in your Mac by launch2net Premium might be that you already installed another driver or the software that came with the modem. And their driver blocks access for launch2net Premium for the modem.

Either contact us at mac@novamedia.de for help. Or use the deinstaller that came with the ZTE190 to completely uninstall the software - including the USB kernel extensions which had been installed by this software.

Then just install launch2net Premium again and it will work fine.

Kind regards

When I used a 3g card launch2net made connections easily without regard to which carrier I had to use at the time. It was software I could easily deploy to users who weren't as tech-savvy as others and they could get their work done easily and quickly. On the few occasions where I had to get support my requests were promptly (within 24h) answered and the recommended changes worked. I recommend launch2net Premium without reservations!

It is especially a good deal when it is offered on mupromo.

There is an issue with Launch2net. This version is called premium but what premium did was stop supporting mobile handsets as modems. So premium is actually a significant step back from the original launch2net. Launch2net did not work with my last provider without a custom configuration. It was only marginally better than configuring by hand. Useful if you travel a lot AND you buy one of their recommended and unlocked wifi sticks. Otherwise just configuring your own stick once for your own provider is not any more trouble in the short term and saves having additional potentially problematic software mixed up in your networking folders.

Hello Uncoy,

thank you for your comments.

About the mobile phones:

Most mobile phones can be tethered without the need of any special software, just by enabling the PAN connection via Bluetooth. The settings to connect are already in place within the phone.

In addition, many mac users switched to an iPhone, which for one can not be address from a connection manager, this is a restriction by Apple and second it has its own tethering and mobile hotspot settings.

In general, if you are using a mobile phone or an iPhone you would not need a connection manager to get you online.

About the provider settings:

launch2net Premium supports hundreds of connection settings. But I hope you understand that there are special contracts for e.g. business cases which we can not know about. So we made it extremely easy to use these settings. Even then you do not have to dig into the system preferences network to configre, add or delete configurations, to look for modem drivers and tweaks to get these drivers to work. The connection settings are updated frequently for launch2net Premium since new networks appear, networks change their names etc.

In general, launch2net Premu will connect you instantly without the need to enter any settings. But it is easy to do so, if you have to.

To put your mail into perspective:

What does launch2net Premium offers which launch2net did not?

- SMS text message manager
- Mobile HotSpot feature
- Preppaid Service locator to use cheap data connections and save roaming costs
- Statistics which offers a very detailed view on each connection like user, SIM Card used, Home or Roaming connection and much more
- much faster setup
- broader modem support
- extensive network support
- Lion compatibility
- Automatic setup
- No extra configuration setup application in its own window
- and many more changes in the connection engine

What does launch2net Premium not have:
- Support for mobile phones

I think you have a much better connection experience with launch2net Premium as you might have with any software coming from modem manufacturers or network providers.

Thank you

Thanks for your reply.

Launch2Net still doesn't feel like premium but rather a step backwards. Still does not cover Austrian Telecom (one needs to do a custom setup using A1 settings).

The license transferring is very heavy handed as well, although fortunately I was able to use the license on the two computers I travel with.

Hello Uncoy,

I am curious about A1 - perhaps we have to add an additional setting for it. It works with many customers in austria, so it must be an additional setting in your case. Can you contact me please at fuellemann (at) novamedia.de so we can add the setting for you?

thanks for the info!

Hi Jan,

I don't have that contract anymore and use my T-Mobile comprehensive plan for mobile connections (on the topicI am so much happier since I got an Android phone with keyboard and free wireless hotspot: HTC Desire Z - it saves me from having to carry and fiddle with another contract and modem).

But for reference, it was the http://aon.at brand which appears to have been retired from the marketplace (redirects to A1 now). AON did exist for at least three years (I was a client).

Thanks for your reply.

Nova Media Mds Gmbh (developer) replied on 25 Nov 2011
Hi Uncoy. We found out some more details, just since we have been curious about the aon issue.

The aon network you have been using did require a login with a dedicated username and password which is different for every customer.

Then A1 aquired aon.

But still it was not possible for the former aon customers to use the common A1 login information, they had to use their dedicated username and password to use the mobile broadband services of A1.

That is why no connection manager could work out of the box for former aon customers and why a custom configuration was necessary. I am just glad that launch2net Premium supports the use of custom usernames and passwords, if it has to be.

Works like a charm! Launch2net's driver is the only way I found to get my 3G USB dongle to work (ZTE MF112) on my 64-bits MacOS Snow Leopard (the brand new MacBook Pros boot in 64-bits as default) without having to reboot in 32 bits mode.

I indeed discovered with dismay that my newly-bought USB 3G Dongle from Three Mobile UK comes with absolutely no driver for Mac 64-bits, and no warning from the seller or any help from Three. Either have to reboot in (slower) 32 bits mode every time I connect (pressing 3 and 2 at boot), or, much more convenient, use Launch2Net which did the trick brilliantly. Chip in the possibility to test it for free, the simple interface, and the email reactivity of Novamedia to enquiries: well done!

I read the reviews and the features. This seems to be a Huawei Dashboard + Internet Sharing combined into one. I do have one problem with Huawei Dashboard, it uses 20-30% CPU just by running the application.

Does anyone has this issue with the app? Also if one has a huawei dashboard + using internet sharing to share the 3G connection, do you still need this app?

Considering to purchase it, but would like to get advises from existing users.

Hi,

just uninstall the Huawei Dashboard (not just delete it) and then install the launch2net Premium demo. I think you will like it, and even when not, you can uninstall it pretty easily and use the dashboard again.

First things first, if you ever think you will need this software, buy it BEFORE you end up in a foreign city trying to get a 3G USB modem working with a prepaid data sim card.

I am writing this from Jakarta and decided to buy an Option 451 modem along with a prepaid data Internet sim card. I plugged it all in and I got this weird message along the lines of "WAN card has a self-assigned IP address". I've only seen this once in over 10 years of Mac ownership and was stumped then and stumped now.

I emailed Nova Media to see if their software may help out and they suggested that I try their demoversion. I was actually hoping not to pay for any software and that OS X would be able to handle it. Unfortunately, OS X seems to have stabbed me in the back.

So, launch2net did an end run around the self-assigned IP problem with my modem, recognized the Telkomsel data sim card and modem and I was more than happy to drag out the credit card. I can now look forward to my trips without the dread of having to run around trying to figure out what works with what.

Thanks Nova Media!

Can anyone tell me if the trial version will work with a pre-paid modem. I'm using a Telstra (Australian) Sierra Wireless modem, USB301, and launch2net will not work. I've unistalled the Telstra software using their uninstaller and reinstalled launch2net but nothing happens. The modem is a plug n play and I was wondering if this is causing some conflict.

Since installing it, EACH TIME I wake up my iMac (OS10.6.4) I am asked to grant permission for access to my keychain. It doesn't matter than I have clicked many times on ALWAYS ALLOW, the request invariably appears. This is a HUGE pain in the neck that far outweighs any potential benefit I can get out of the application (I was just trying it to see if it is useful to me). Is it a bug, or what? In any case, the only thing I could do was to deinstall it, after much exasperation.

Hello, I totally aggree with you. This is a pain in the neck and definitely a no-go. First of all I assure you, that is not the way our software works, so we want to look for a fix for you.

Please boot your Mac from your system CD or system DVD, then open the Disk Utilities on the CD, select your hard disk and run "Repair Disk Permissions". Then reboot and boot from your hard disk.

Open launch2net Premium again and this time, it should keep your keychain-settings. If not, then contact as at mac@novamedia.de so we can check further.

I have exactly the same 'feature' of asking for permission again and again. What is even worse, is that restricted users also get these messages, who don't even have the chance of authorizing the software, so the window keeps coming up. All they can do is to toss the window into some dark corner of the desktop and ignore it.
I have had several exchange of messages with support, reinstall, repair permissions, etc. They were very helpful, just nothing what they said helped. My only solution to keep it uninstalled while not using it. Which is also annoying since I need to restart the computer after installation.

Hello, we did not have many reports of failed permission, but it is annoying nevertheless. So what we do from here: If you have already contacted our support, I want to follow up. Please forward me the last support exchange to fuellemann@novamedia.de

Otherwise send me the details of the permission problems to to fuellemann@novamedia.de and I forward it to the programmers. This way we can identify the cause of the problem and can contact you directly for patches, workarounds and more.
