syncOtunes synchronizes two iTunes playlist libraries together. It does this by:
  • select the iTunes library file from your first Mac.
  • open the iTunes library of your second Mac through a network share.
  • syncOtunes compares the songlistes and creates a folder for each of your Mac's containing the missing song files.
  • open iTunes and drag that folder into the iTunes window. iTunes will import your songs, and you're done.

What's New

Version 0.95:
  • statistics display
  • sample song play
  • applescript with delete option
  • enhanced prefs

Requirements

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or later
  • iTunes 4.x.

This is exactly what I need, but it doesn't work. If I run the program from my PowerBook, I have the same problem others are having--it runs, but the copy-to folders end up empty. If I run this from my Mac mini, the program actually crashes in the file chooser when trying to browse to the library file on my PowerBook. If this starts to work, it'll be perfect.

Ok i came up with my own method that works, but its quite a workaround, and you need some perl script and applescript knowledge to fix it for your set up. You also need os x of course. IT ACTUALLY WORKS THOUGH!

Dounload this diskimage, and read the how to file. I wrote it for me to remember, but you should be able to figure it out with basic programming experience. Good luck!

PS. this is hosted off of my mac, so if i have it away from home it may not be available, try again later. Or, someone who gets it, host it permanently, and link to it here. That way other can get it later. Improvements are also encouraged fo course! Send me an email if you have any questions: pdoersch@optonline.net

If the author of SyncOtunes reads this - great program! but keep it up to date, its not working.

I get the same issue, it finds all the right songs, creates the copy lists, opens the finder, then nothing. I think version .93 did work though. Anyone know where to find it?

Maybe it's just me -

but when I press 'copy' - it makes the list - makes the folders, says that the transfer is begining in Finder, and then... it does NOTHING. Finder doesn't transfer the files

It worked fine for me at first - but now nothing.

Am I missing something? I so love the concept of this app.

v0.95 Did exactly what I needed. I needed to copy streaming MP3's to my iBook and syncOtunes detected the files and let me copy them, then import them to iTunes. When a program does exactly what you want and does it perfectly, it's tough to complain! So I won't!

like it in principle as I want to sync my powerbook to my main (g4) itunes library and copy the files. Only problem is it is looking at two almost identical libraries and thinks that lots are missing from my powerbook (perhaps because the itunes library and itunes files on the G4 are on different disks?). Basically doesnt work for me (deleting my powerbook library and copying an entire new copy in is faster) but in principle this is what I want

Good app but I need an " intelligent" sync... With my rating or my play count (example: ALL my music on my iMac and just 3,4 & 5 stars songs in my iBook)...

If this had support for adding changed files to each library, and syncing playlists, this'd be the bomb.

Great idea, but not quite what I have been looking for. What I really would like is an app that would sync libraries across multiple users of the same mac, but without copying the song files. This is the first app that I have seen that is on the right track (at least for my needs). I'll keep watching.

This app looks promising. But although I have 2538 songs in my library, it could only find 976. More work will be needed before it's truly useful.
